Can a 2022 Kia Stinger Outrun a Scat Pack?
The 2022 Kia Stinger sports sedan offers a performance-oriented liftback car with daily driver credentials and a throaty 3.3L V6 mill. However, the 2022, 2023, and 2024 Stingers will be the last of their kind before the automaker discontinues the model. Unfortunately, the Kia hatchback sedan isn’t alone; Dodge is also discontinuing its sports sedan, the venerable Charger. So, before the curtains close, how does the 2022 Stinger stack up against the outgoing 2023 Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack?
Is the Kia Stinger a fast car?
The 2022 Kia Stinger GT2 AWD packs a twin-turbocharged, 368-horsepower 3.3L V6 engine. As a result of its power and all-wheeled grip, the Stinger GT2 AWD is properly fast. Car and Driver managed to motivate a 2022 GT2 AWD to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds and finish a quarter-mile drag in 13.1 seconds.
The 2022 model year saw the last GT1 trim, which also had the 3.3L six-cylinder mill. However, the entry-level GT-Line trim packs a turbocharged 2.5L inline-four-cylinder engine. With that mill, the Stinger GT-Line is good for a 5.7-second sprint to 60, per MotorTrend.
How fast is a Charger R/T Scat Pack?
A 2023 Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack can hit 60 mph in around 3.8 seconds. That speed is courtesy of a naturally-aspirated 6.4L Apache V8 engine, which produces 485 tire-melting horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque.
The result of the Scat Pack’s immense power reserves is a sports sedan that will finish a quarter-mile sprint in around 12.3 seconds. Moreover, Dodge says the four-door Mopar muscle sedan will top out at about 175 mph.
Is the 2022 Kia Stinger faster than a Scat Pack?
While the 2022 Kia Stinger is a fast car, especially in the GT2 AWD trim, the Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack is faster in every metric. The V8-powered Dodge model will outsprint the GT2 AWD by 0.8 seconds in the dash to 60 mph and a quarter-mile drag.
Moreover, the Charger R/T Scat Pack recorded a roadholding test result of 0.95 g, 0.10 gs better than the Kia sports sedan model.
How much is a 2022 Kia Stinger?
A 2022 Kia Stinger starts at around $37,435, and the 2023 model bumps the price by about $430.
As a result, the Stinger GT-Line is comparable to the Pentastar V6-powered SXT and GT Chargers. Moreover, the 2023 Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack starts at about $50,895 for the model’s last year in production. While the Stinger is quick and capable, the Scat Pack is cheaper, more powerful, and faster than the Kia model.
