Can the 2023 Ford Maverick Be a Good Work Truck?
As a small truck, you might be wondering if the 2023 Ford Maverick can actually do work. Because this vehicle is a unibody pickup, it might not offer all of the capability of a larger truck. But, the Blue Oval did work to give the Maverick some legitimate utility. And that means if you want an affordable work truck, the Ford Maverick might be able to handle your needs.
Can the Ford Maverick tow and haul?
In terms of towing, the 2023 Ford Maverick can tow up to 4,000 pounds. It can also haul up to 1,500 lbs. Although, it is worth noting that with the base hybrid engine, the Maverick can only tow up to 2,000 lbs.
When compared to something like the F-150, those numbers may not seem that impressive. But an F-150 costs more, is much bigger, and is not as efficient as the Maverick. For someone who wants an affordable new truck, the Ford Maverick might make sense. Especially if you do not need a pickup as large as a full-size truck.
In the video below, you can see that a general contractor actually replaced their old work vehicle with a new Maverick. Despite being a small truck, clearly, this Ford is able to tackle some truck stuff. And if you don’t need that 4,000-lb towing capacity, the hybrid engine will do it quite efficiently as well.
Can you buy a 2023 Maverick?
If you’re interested in Ford’s small truck, you’ve probably noticed it’s hard to actually get one. The Blue Oval is working to ramp up production of the Maverick, but until that happens, supplies are fairly limited.
In fact, when Ford first opened orders for the 2023 Maverick, it seems like they filled up almost immediately. And that is a direct reflection of how popular this compact pickup is. In terms of sales, it is certainly a hotter item than something like the Hyundai Santa Cruz.
The Ford Maverick can even handle off-roading
Alright, so while this isn’t a vehicle built for serious off-road use, some Maverick models can handle legitimate trail duty. For the 2023 model, Ford has introduced a Tremor option on this small truck. And that adds a variety of off-road goodies.
In order to get a Maverick Tremor, you must opt for the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine and AWD, but for some folks, that might be worth it. The Tremor gives this pickup truck a one-inch lift, a unique AWD system, and improved cooling capabilities. Although you won’t be doing serious rock crawling, it is cool to see a small truck that is comfortable off of the pavement.
Currently, it seems like the biggest problem facing the Ford Maverick is getting this truck into the hands of customers. According to Ford Authority, there have been some issues keeping up with demand. And unfortunately, until the Blue Oval ramps up production, the supply of this truck will probably remain limited, especially when it comes to dealership inventory.
