Muscle cars have been around for quite a while now, and the style has resulted in some seriously timeless machines. However, modern muscle cars took it a step forward and created the horsepower wars in an effort to assert V8 dominance. Two supercharged vehicles are more responsible for igniting the horsepower wars than any others: the 2015 Dodge Challenger Hellcat and the 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.

How much horsepower does a 2013 Ford Mustang GT500 have?

The 2013 Ford Mustang GT500 produces 662 horsepower from its supercharged 5.8L V8 engine. Further, if you can keep it from melting every one of its tires, its power is channeled via six-manual transmission. That means a lot of power, and you decide how to use it.

Still, more important than the 662 horsepower is what it represented. Up to that point, the contenders for the muscle car crown were the previous GT500 (still an S197) and the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, a formidable car for sure. However, the Blue Oval put the competition to bed by smashing the 580-horsepower ZL1’s numbers with the 2013 GT500. Although the 2013 (and 2014) Ford Mustang GT500 wouldn’t have the crown for long.

How much horsepower does a 2015 Dodge Hellcat have?

The 2015 Dodge Challenger Hellcat produces an obscene 707 horsepower from a supercharged 6.2L V8 engine. Frankly, when Tim Kuniskis and the mad engineers at Dodge unveiled the 2015 Dodge Challenger Hellcat, the car was met with quizzical fascination. “Did Dodge just make a street-legal coupe with 707 horsepower?” They did, and it was wild.

If the 2013 Ford Mustang GT500 didn’t ignite the horsepower wars by upstaging the ZL1, the Hellcat did by being completely ridiculous. Also, Dodge offered a manual transmission for drivers who wanted the three-pedal setup. Although drivers quickly learned that the fastest times were accomplished using Dodge’s eight-speed automatic transmission.

How much is a 2013 Ford Mustang GT500?

Snagging a 2013 Ford Mustang GT500 is becoming difficult, with prices for low mileage examples as high as $70,000. According to Kelley Blue Book (KBB), fair market prices for the 2013 GT500 are just under $40,000, but you’ll probably have some difficulty finding one for that price. Still, the 2013 and 2014 cars were the last Shelbys before the design refresh of the S550, so they’ll likely be collectible going forward.

How much is a 2015 Dodge Hellcat?

Low mileage 2015 Dodge Hellcats can demand a premium, with a recent example on Facebook Marketplace going for $70,000. However, like the Shelby GT500, KBB says you can find a higher-mileage example for under $40,000.

Which muscle car should you buy?

You should choose one of these titans depending on your purposes. According to Car and Driver, the 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is 0.1 seconds quicker than the Hellcat in the sprint to sixty (3.5 seconds vs. 3.6 seconds). However, the 2015 Dodge Hellcat is 0.1 seconds faster in the quarter-mile and packs 45 extra horsepower. Also, both vehicles have their track credentials, with the hefty Hellcat packing Bilstein adjustable shocks and the Shelby being a Shelby.

It all comes down to preference and whether you want an SRT badge or a Shelby badge. Scroll down to the following article to read more about muscle cars!
