Do you dream of effortlessly driving over sand dunes and crawling through rock features as an ideal weekend getaway? Are you hoping to one day show off to your work buddies that you can hang with the best at the local off-road trail without the need to buy an aftermarket lift kit? Then 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro could be for you. But even if you’re not going to use it for all that off-road glory, then it can at least make you look like you do.

The Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro can upgrade your image

Don’t get us wrong, we are aware that the 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro was built for the serious weekend warrior that likes to tackle the trails and get out of some deep ruts. But when it’s not playing in the sand or dirt, the Tacoma TRD Pro is a well-mannered truck that can easily be used for moving furniture or running simple errands. However, during our week with the lifted and gussied-up Tacoma, we realized that while the added performance features are functional, they may have given onlookers the wrong idea.

Driving the Tacoma TRD Pro in a state like Colorado is not too unlike driving a Ferrari around Beverly Hills; anyone that sees you in it might think that you’re either just showing off or that you’re a serious motorsport enthusiast. Either way, it goes without saying that a purpose-built truck like the Tacoma TRD Pro can upgrade your image, if that’s what you’re looking for.

The performance features are functional, though

Whether you use the truck for its intended purpose or not, the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro does come with some handy, functional features for everyday use. For example, the skid plate and added one-inch lift from the TRD-tuned suspension allow you to win any parking lot war with those annoying speedbumps at your local grocery store.

And while the desert air intake makes it look like you tackle the sandy dunes on your days off, even if there isn’t a desert area in the state, the protruding snorkel snaking its way up the A-pillar is obnoxious enough to make the F-150 owner you parked next to just a little jealous. And let’s not forget the TRD Pro hood scoop and exhaust, which tie in the look together to make it look like you mean business as you pull into that “compact” parking spot at work.

The Tacoma TRD PRO is great on and off the road

As we can see, the performance features added to the Tacoma TRD Pro do double duty, just as the truck itself does. And while the TRD Pro is all business on the outside, on the inside, it’s more upscale than you would think. There are leather seating surfaces, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, and even a premium JBL sound system with 6 speakers that sound better than you would think. However, the passenger seat is not power-adjustable, which is odd for a truck that cost around $50,000.

Luxurious amenities aside, the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro can handle just about anything that you can put it through during the week or on an adventurous weekend. But if you’re just trying to “look cool,” then it can handle that too, although, you might be better off spending $10,000 less and getting a lower trim level.
