Jeep launched an all-new Grand Cherokee for 2023. The new Grand Cherokee rides on an all-new frame, with all new features, and a stunning interior. The new Grand Cherokee also comes in several versions from Laredo to the super-luxury Summit Reserve. Sadly, the tire-smoking SRT version isn’t available any more, but then you can still buy the ultimate off-road version, the Trailhawk.

What is the Trailhawk package on the Grand Cherokee?

The Trailhawk is the ultimate off-road version of the new Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Trailhawk comes with the Quadra-Lift air suspension that can raise the SUV for up to 11.3-inches of clearance, which also improves your approach and breakover angles. It also has a couple of four-wheel drive tricks, like an electronic limited-slip differential and a disconnecting sway bar, as well as off-road cruise control. It also comes with 18-inch wheels with off-road tires and steel skid plates underneath.

What is the Trailhawk 4xe package?

Jeep’s plug-in hybrid range, called the 4xe, also gets a Trailhawk version. It has a 25-mile all-electric range and gets up to 57 MPGe. Like it’s gas-powered stablemate, it also gets the Quadra-Drive 4×4 system with a two-speed transfer case that multiplies torque. It has 10.9 inches of clearance, as well as most of the electronic goodies of the gas version. The 4xe version does not get the disconnecting differential. If its silence doesn’t give it away on the trail, its unique blue tow hooks should.

Is the Jeep Trailhawk worth it?

The Trailhawk package starts at $54,630, and is four-wheel drive only. Is it worth $16,000 more than the base Laredo Grand Cherokee? Well, if you want to go off-roading, it is. It gets specific trim, and a specific interior that adds different seats with Trailhawk lettering and some other tech that makes it more capable than a regular Grand Cherokee.

The Grand Cherokee is all-new for 2022

Nobody ever said the old Grand Cherokee was ugly, so we’re glad Jeep kept most of the styling cues from the outgoing model. The new one, though, is built on an all-new frame that was designed specifically for the Grand Cherokee. That means the new Grand Cherokee was designed from the start around a new 10.25-inch touchscreen, four-wheel drive, a high tow rating, and tons of engine options. Though, according to KBB, it did have some initial teething problems with that new technology.

The new Grand Cherokee L, which Jeep launched as a 2021 model, added a five-inch longer wheelbase and a third row. It’s the first three-row Grand Cherokee, and that makes it one of the most capable seven seaters you can buy.

You can still get a V8 in the Trailhawk

We know that 4xe PHEV version is great, but it’s hard to pass up the 5.7-liter V8 option. With the V8, you not only get a 7,200 pound tow rating, but also 357 horsepower under the hood. Jeep has done a lot to maximize the efficiency of the V8, too, with cylinder deactivation, variable valve timing, and a clever front-axle disconnect that puts it in two-wheel drive mode if the computer thinks that’s what you need.
