Though the Ranger Raptor’s future is in jeopardy, Ford’s midsize pickup truck continues to soldier on. The Ford Ranger is already fairly impressive in terms of off-road capability in its base form. But that’s been bolstered by various overlanding and off-roading builds. And now, design and tuning firm Carlex Design is adding its own luxurious spin on the concept.

Carlex Design’s Ford Ranger build

The design work comes courtesy of Carlex Design’s European team, headquartered in Czechowice-Dziedzice, Poland. The company has already modified other trucks like the VW Amarok, Mercedes X-Class, and the Toyota Hilux. However, this is the first time it’s taken a swing at modifying the Ford Ranger.

Externally, the Ford Ranger gets a suspension lift, fender flares, and 18″ wheels shod with BFGoodrich all-terrain tires, Motor1 reports. The truck also gets new tubular side steps, a tow bar, and a bed style bar. Presumably, the bed-mounted bar will accommodate extra lights and strapping on tools.

Additionally, the truck has a new front bumper, grille, headlight surrounds, and a front skid plate. If these body-kit components are similar to the firm’s other products, they likely have Line-X coatings. Line-X makes a variety of protective coatings, but it’s best-known for spray-on bed liners.

Carlex hasn’t revealed if the Ford Ranger’s engine has been tuned at all. But based on the firm’s other truck builds, it likely hasn’t been touched. Instead, the rest of the mods are for the interior. The cabin is reupholstered with leather. Both the front and rear seats are patterned, with silver stitching and a silver center stripe. The front seats are also more heavily bolstered than the standard ones.

Pricing and availability

As of this writing, Carlex Design hasn’t revealed how much the Ford Ranger mods will cost. However, the Toyota Hilux kit costs the equivalent of $14,680. So, figure about $15,000 for the Ranger kit.

That is if Carlex Design offers the Ranger kit in the US. The firm is international, with an additional headquarters in South Korea. However, its previous truck builds were based on European-market models, rather than any US-market ones. But the company has also modified other vehicles that are sold in the US, like the Hyundai Santa Fe, Top Gear reports. So, bringing Carlex Design’s Ranger to the States wouldn’t necessarily be unfeasible or impossible.

However, even if it doesn’t, there are a few other ways to spend $15,000 on improving the Ranger.

Alternative Ford Ranger mods and builds

APG’s Ford Ranger Prorunner doesn’t come with new tires or wheels. Instead, it’s more of a ‘blank slate’ that can be further out-fitted according to the buyer’s wants. But for about $16k, you can give your Ranger a carbon-fiber widebody kit, upgraded suspension components, and a winch-ready aluminum bumper. APG can also fit the Prorunner with LED lights, a Warn winch, and practically any off-road tire, wheel, and dampers you want.

For just under $10k, there’s the Ford Ranger RTR. It swaps out the stock shocks for Fox 2.0 coilovers and the standard exhaust for a Ford Performance cat-back unit. RTR also installs 17” wheels, Nitto Ridge Grappler tires, fender flares, and a new grille. And for a little extra, you can also fit the truck with a new leather interior. Plus, the RTR package can be installed directly at certain Ford dealers.

Ford’s Performance Parts catalog also includes some other Ranger components. Like the ARB steel winch-ready bumper. And the $825 Power Pack, which bumps the truck’s 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder from 270 hp and 310 lb-ft to 320 hp and 355 lb-ft. Not only is it covered by a factory warranty, but it’s also emissions-legal in all 50 states.
