All manner of ‘s’ words stick close to Jaguar’s sports cars: speedy, slinky, stylish, and so on. But there’s another word that belongs there, too, at least for used Jags: savings. Although the current Jaguar F-Type Coupe’s performance is pricey, secondhand ones are significantly more affordable. For example, the 2015 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe that’s available this week on Cars & Bids.

For a few short years, the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe offered gloriously stylish RWD shenanigans

In 2015 as today, the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe was the range-topping model. However, there’s a big difference between a 2022 F-Type R and a 2015 one. Starting in 2017, Jaguar made the most powerful version of its supercharged coupe AWD-only. But AWD wasn’t even an option in 2015: the R was RWD only.

Admittedly, the 2015 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe could’ve benefitted from the AWD system. MotorTrend described the less powerful F-Type V8 S as having “Slip’n Slide handling.” However, even with two more driven wheels and 25 more horsepower, the 2022 F-Type R only hits 60 mph 0.1 seconds faster.

Furthermore, MT found upgrading to Michelin Pilot Super Sports “transformed the F-Type’s handling.” Also, there’s a benefit to a 550-hp RWD coupe: burnouts on demand. And that tire smoke comes accompanied by a sonorous supercharged eight-cylinder soundtrack.

But the 2015 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe is fun even if you’re not power-sliding the rear tires into oblivion. Being stiffer than the open-top model, the Coupe handles and steers better, even though its suspension and chassis are identical. Also, it matches the 911 Carrera S in braking, though the optional carbon-ceramic Brembos are superfluous. Plus, when you’re not driving like your hair’s on fire, the F-Type R Coupe works well as a comfortable, luxurious commuter. One that just so happens to be stunning to look at.

This near-stock 2015 R Coupe on Cars & Bids could be yours

Speaking of stunning, the 2015 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe currently listed on Cars & Bids still is. Apart from scattered scratches, scuffs, and some minor interior wear, it’s in great shape. It also only has 37,111 miles on the clock. In addition, besides a ceramic coating, it’s stock—and well-equipped.

From the factory, this 2015 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe has a glass-panel roof, heated steering wheel, heated sports seats with red stitching, dual-zone automatic climate control, and carbon-fiber center console trim. It also has the Extended Leather Package, which means the dashboard, door panels, center console, windshield pillars, headliner, and even the sun visors have leather upholstery. Plus, this car has navigation, front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic detection, and a backup camera.

In addition to its relatively low mileage and stock condition, this 2015 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe also has a clean accident-free history. It has a binder full of service records, too, including a recent alignment, new steering wheel and door trim components, resurfaced wheels, and an interior trim cleaning. And as a 2015 car, this R Coupe was part of the seatbelt tensioner recall; the repair work was performed in 2020.

Is this 2015 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe a reliable sports car bargain?

As of this writing, this 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe is listed at $35,000 with four days left in the auction. For comparison, in 2015 this car started at $99,925 before destination and options. And the only RWD F-Type R Coupe currently listed on Autotrader costs almost $24,000 more than this 2015 Cars & Bids example. In short, this is a genuine bargain.

Before you bid, though, I highly recommend getting a pre-purchase inspection. But it’s worth noting that much like the earlier X150 XK/XKR, the Jaguar F-Type Coupe is a fairly solid sports car. MT’s long-term 2015 R Coupe, for example, only had two minor issues: a luggage cover that came unglued and loose rear-glass-lifting ropes. And the former problem was actually a recall item.

As for this car, the only potential future issues might be high-pressure fuel pump failure as well as noisy timing chain tensioners. However, neither are unique to the Jaguar F-Type Coupe. Just make sure to change the automatic transmission fluid every 70,000 miles or so. Apart from that, though, these cars aren’t seemingly less reliable than their rivals.
