Caterpillar truck controversy, is it really happening?
There are too many rumors about the Caterpillar truck! Some critics swear that this pickup truck isn’t happening. But others say a new model could rival work trucks like the Ford F-150 and Chevy Silverado 1500. What’s the truth?
Is a Caterpillar truck really coming out?
A new Caterpillar truck isn’t totally off the table. It could emerge to fight popular work trucks like the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or Ford F-150.
A rumor about Caterpillar building a new pickup truck spread like wildfire. Because this idea circulated from AI-generated images with false specs all over TikTok and YouTube people got pretty excited.
However, many outlets quickly put the rumors to bed. There was no legitimate evidence to support the idea until now.
According to The Drive, a Caterpillar employee shared that the images that circulated were AI-generated. As far as they know, no mockup trucks have been made. However, they confirmed that engine liners for the proposed trucks had entered production.
Did this employee just leak that CAT is building truck parts? Another rumor from Caterpillar shared that there could be two engine options available—a standard V6 for about $59,000 and an available V8 for $89,000.
This raises a few questions. For example, will the engine run on gas or diesel? Will it be a half-ton or heavy-duty truck?
Reportedly, the engine liner is being produced at the plant in Mapleton, Illinois. The current parts might just be samples, but they’re being pumped out at a high volume.
On the other hand, Caterpillar truck parts could be built for an existing auto brand. The engines could be for heavy-duty trucks from Ford, Ram, Chevrolet, and more. Ford builds its diesel engines in-house, though.
But what if we need to think on a larger scale? What if the alleged new Caterpillar engine is for a semi-truck? CAT is known for building large equipment that requires plenty of power. Also, the semi-truck could be used to tow equipment.
So the Caterpillar truck hasn’t been officially debunked as CAT recently shared a few clues. But instead of a full-size truck, we could see new engines for heavy-duty trucks, or a new semi-truck.
