Charge Your 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe at Trailheads
You know what’s exciting about the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe? It’s electric! Now that the classic 70’s boogie-woogie, woogie song is stuck in your head, you can be even more excited about going electric. Jeep just made the 4xe electric hybrid even easier to charge by adding charging stations to a few off-roading trailheads.
The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe gets trailhead charging stations
According to Cars.com, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid is almost here, and an all-electric Wrangler should follow in its footsteps. We aren’t sure how long the Jeep Wrangler Magneto will take, but we’re excited about it.
Now Jeep is working to ensure that drivers can charge their models in the Wrangler’s natural environment. Jeep has partnered with Electrify America to install Jeep 4xe-branded charging stations at some off-roading trailheads.
The first Level 2 charging stations will arrive at trailheads in Moab, Utah. Also, charging stations will be installed at the Big ber and Rubicon trails in California. Jeep plans to add more charging stations to other trails with the Jeep Badge of Honor during the next year.
How do you charge the Jeep Wrangler 4xe?
If you have a 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe, then download the Electrify America app. This will allow you to initiate charging at the trailhead locations for free. The app also has nifty features for monitoring your charging session.
The electric charge port is located at the bottom of the driver’s side A-pillar. The 17-kWh battery pack can be fully recharged in two hours using a Level 2 charger. You don’t have to fully charge the Wrangler 4xe during every session.
With a Level 1 charger (120-volt), it takes about 12 hours to fully recharge. A Level 1 charging cable comes standard and can be plugged into a home outlet. You can talk with your dealer about having a Level 2 charger professionally installed at home. Or you can get more information from Amazon.
How does the Jeep Wrangler 4xe handle range anxiety?
The Jeep Wrangler 4xe has an EPA estimated range of 49 MPGe with an estimated driving range of 370 miles. So, it goes pretty darn far on a single charge. The hybrid mode uses the torque from the 2.0-liter engine and electric motors for maximum horsepower and instant torque, while electric power is used first.
When the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe has more than a 1-percent battery charge, you can use the electric mode. It has zero tailpipe emissions until you reach highway speeds and can run in this mode for up to 21 miles.
The eSave mode prioritizes the 2.0-liter engine and saves the battery charge for later. When the power demand is low, the engine shuts off. It can also be reconfigured to increase the battery charge.
Plus, the Wrangler 4xe has regenerative braking. This feature charges the battery while you decelerate and brake. You can slow the vehicle down without hitting the brake pedal for a more aggressive regen too, but you have to use the brakes to come to a complete stop.
When the 4xe isn’t charged, you can still use the gas engine to get places. You don’t have to charge it every night, depending on how far you drive each day. Some people may prefer to keep it charged, though.
