In my brief career as an Uber driver, I had some absurdly entitled passengers. So I can’t imagine how bad it can get for a limousine driver. Being a chauffeur to celebrities and billionaires may sound like a dream gig—until you have to call the cops on your own passengers. One driver did just that to avoid losing his livelihood. But not everyone agrees with his choice, and other drivers have made the opposite call.

In a Reddit AMA titled “I am a professional chauffeur of celebrities and billionaires for over 5 years,” one driver shared the wildest stories from behind the wheel. But it wasn’t just the original poster who had tales to tell. Another chauffeur chimed in with an unforgettable story about a wealthy client who crossed the line.

This driver had a regular client who treated a certain white powder as a “party favor.” Naturally, the driver warned him: “I told him that I would have to terminate the run if he continually used it in the back of the vehicle… He didn’t feel the need to adhere to local laws.” So, rather than risk his career, the driver made a bold move. He called the police and asked them to pull the limo over for a “routine check.” With the partition up, the passengers were none the wiser. “When the cops arrived, they obliged,” they arrested the client and his friends, letting the driver clock out early.

Not everyone thought the chauffeur made the right call. One commenter asked, “You narced out your client?… why not just throw him out of the car?” The driver didn’t hold back in his response. “Someone on the outside not educated about the client, laws, rules and regulations, would probably think that.” He went on to explain that “there are a few reasons why it worked like that.” In addition to the client’s disrespectful attitude the driver said, “I could lose my license and driving authority if I got pulled over and that was found in a search… I am often ‘encouraged’ to look the other way in certain situations. But it’s with people I can trust to a certain degree. I’m not about to lose my livelihood, something I’ve worked for years to build.”

Of course, not every driver would make the same choice. The original poster of the AMA had a more laid-back approach when it came to drugs. He once picked up a famous rapper straight from his private jet who obviously had a favorite substance.

He also made it clear that drug use was often par for the course. He wasn’t entirely cynical, though. Most celebrities were “actually quite boring” in the car, often sitting in silence or sleeping. “Keanu Reeves is a nice guy,” the driver added, offering a rare positive note.

Some celebrities, though, don’t even say “hello.” When asked about difficult customers, the chauffeur admitted that while most were forgettable, a few—like Christian Horner of the Red Bull F1 Team—couldn’t even manage a basic greeting. Still, the driver took it in stride: “It never got any worse than being ignored.”

Whatever the movies depict, chauffeuring is not all luxury and glamour. Sometimes, it’s about navigating not just traffic, but the unpredictable behaviors of the rich and reckless. Whether you’re turning a blind eye or calling in the cops, being behind the wheel of a limo can make for one wild ride.
