These Cheap New Cars Come in the Best Colors
There are two things our current car market is a bit light on; cheap cars and cars that come in fun colors. Well, I guess we are kind of light on everything these days but never mind that. These two categories seem like they would rarely overlap, but here are some cheap new cars still offered in the best colors.
What is the most common car color?
For years, white has reigned supreme as the most popular car color. Silver is usually a close number two. If you, like us, are sick of seeing white cars everywhere, then you’ll be pleased to know that there are still a few models out there offering fun colors.
When we say fun colors, think of late 1960s muscle car colors. I’m talking about shades of purple, yellow, orange, blue, green, and many shades in between. Granted, these colors are easier to find if you step into the luxury or performance brands like BMW, Audi, or even Ferrari. But these cars come in arguably even more fun colors, and they are some of the cheapest new cars on the market.
Fiat 500
We won’t argue that the Fiat 500 is the best car, or really even a good car, for that matter, but it is cheap and sports one of the most fun color selections of any model. The Fiat 500 comes in an array of easter egg hues. The pale pinks and blues seen here are all you really need to know.
However, Fiat isn’t afraid to steer into less conventionally beautiful colorways, like metallic brown paint. The Fiat 500 comes in eight colorways; three solid (pastel) paints, four metallic paints, and one tri-coat metallic paint. Also, the interior gets just as vibrant as the exterior, thanks to color-matching upholstery. These color options come on a car that averages about $11,000-$17,000.
Mitsubishi Mirage
According to Consumer Reports, the Mitsubishi Mirage is one of the worst cars on the market. Thankfully, this list transcends quality and looks only to vanity for approval. As far as colors are concerned, the Mitsubishi Mirage sports hot purplish pink, one of the most muscle car colors ever.
There are a few objective pros to the Mirage outside of price and color options. The Mirage starts at $14,645, making it the cheapest new car sold in America. It also sports wild paint colors like Millennial Pink, Sand Yellow, Kiwi Green, and Infrared.
Any Subaru
Subaru might not be the cheapest (although not bad), most loudly colored cars on the road, but they are mildly priced and have some really cool and unique colors. The newest batch of Crosstreks, Outbacks, and Foresters come in various colors that signal Subaru immediately. Subaru has some pretty unique colors once you get past the many whites, grays, silvers, and blacks. Some of our favorites are Autumn Green Metallic, Cinnamon Brown Pearl, and Geyser Blue.
Although the current Subaru line is a bit pricer than the others on the list, it is still a very reasonable MSRP range considering the market these days. Most 2022 Subaru models start around the $26k mark and top around $36k.
Ford Maverick
Pickup trucks used to come in a wide variety of wacky colors, liveries, and decal packages. Those days are all but gone, save the new Ford Maverick. Yep, a new truck comes in something other than black or maroon. With colors like Cyber Orange, Velocity Blue, Rapid Red, and Hot Pepper Red, you’d think we were talking about, well, the original Ford Maverick.
Not only does the new Ford Maverick come in fun colors, but it also does so at a lower cost than any other new pickup truck. The 2022 Ford Maverick starts at $19,995.
Why aren’t there better car colors?
Follow the money. As long as consumers keep buying white (full disclosure: me), silver, and black cars, then automakers will continue to make more of those colors than the more fun ones.
If we want to change this boring fact about the car market, then we have to start buying more exciting cars in more exciting colors. Thanks to Jalopnik, we have plenty of options on this list. Thankfully, the new cars on this list are some of the cheapest new cars (and trucks) on the market. So, if you want a pink car, there shouldn’t be anything standing in your way.
