If you’ve decided that the plethora of midsize pickup trucks aren’t cutting it, and you need a full-size 2022 truck on the cheap, we’ve got you. In these times of rampant price spikes, there are still deals on full-size trucks, if you’re willing to give up some of the frills the new truck tantalizes you with. You may have to special order some of these trucks as the automakers like to push the accessorized stuff. It is what makes the extra dough.

The cheapest pickup in 2022 is the Ram Classic

So the cheapest full-size truck on the market today is the Ram 1500 Classic. It is the continuation of the previous generation of the Ram truck, as a placeholder for an upcoming midsize truck Ram is developing right now. Things worked out for Stellantis to continue the old Ram 1500 production at the factory it has been housed for years. The new 1500 got a brand new manufacturing facility. Serendipity, no?

For $31,310, it is a lot of truck. Granted, it is not completely new, but it offers everything any 2022 full-size truck offers if you can forego some of the frills. You get a Tradesman 4×2 regular cab for starters. The Ram Tradesman model comes with a six-foot bed, and a 3.6-liter V6 pumping out 305 hp. The 269 lb-ft is transferred to an eight-speed automatic. No manual transmissions for this stripper model. 

A further reason to feel confident with your choice is the towing rating of 5,000 lbs, and a payload of 1,510 lbs. This is a stripped truck, so manual windows are part of the deal, as are vinyl floor trim. Wear this cheapness proud!

Under the Ram Classic for the cheapest truck is the Ford F-150

Just slightly more expensive is the base model 2022 Ford F-150. It starts at $31,685 and is a two-door cab and a six-foot bed. Power comes from a 3.3-liter V6 hooked to a 10-speed automatic. 

Towing capacity is rated at 5,000 lbs, with a payload of 2,000 lbs. But this is still a bargain with standard features like air conditioning, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, automatic headlights, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and dynamic brake support. In other words, a lot of the safety features you wouldn’t expect from a base model truck.

What about the Silverado?

Chevy’s base 2022 Silverado is slightly more expensive than Ford’s base F-150. Starting at $32,100, it starts with Chevy’s two-door regular cab body. A 2.7-liter turbo inline-four is the base engine. But it pumps out 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. From here, it leads the other full-size base truck in numbers. 

Towing is rated at 9,500 lbs. The base Silverado’s payload comes in at 2,280 lbs. Manual windows and locks are part of the package. So are either vinyl or cloth-covered seats. We’d go with the vinyl choice; they’re easier to clean. Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and air conditioning are all part of the base Silverado package.
