Edmunds True Cost to Own calculations shows that it can cost an average of $3,587 to maintain a 2022 Camry during the first five years of ownership. That’s peanuts compared to some luxury cars, which can cost twice as much. Furthermore, the repair costs for a Camry over five years is an estimated $744, which comes out to less than $150 a year.

2022 Mitsubishi Mirage

Are you surprised to see the 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage on this list? We are. But it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise, considering Mitsubishi is historically known for building reliable cars that are cheap to maintain. According to Car Edge, “Mitsubishi offers one of the lowest maintenance costs on average when looking at its lineup of passenger cars and SUVs.”

Considering the Mirage will only set you back an average of $24,658 over the course of five years (the cost of the car included), we’d say it’s a pretty cheap car to maintain. If you just need a car to get from point A to B inexpensively without much of a need for style, the Mirage could be the car for you.

2022 Honda Civic

Again, there should be no surprise here as the Honda Civic has historically been one of the cheapest cars to maintain. The 2022 model is no different, as modern technology has made the Civic even easier and less costly to repair and maintain. According to Edmunds, it should cost an average of $3,644 to maintain a Civic over the course of five years, which equals an average of $728 per year. That’s not bad at all.

2022 Nissan Versa

Just like the Mitsubishi Mirage, the 2022 Nissan Versa offers buyers an affordable package that’s great for basic commuting. It may not be one of the sportiest cars on the market, but it’s one of the cheapest to maintain. Car Edge reports that it should cost less than $500 a year to maintain a Versa, which makes it a really good deal for anyone in the market for a subcompact car.

2022 Volkswagen Passat

 The Volkswagen Passat has come a long way since its roots, which date back to 1972 when the Passat B1 was released. The Passat is now bigger, sleeker, and more advanced than before. That evolution has led it to be one of the cheapest midsize sedans to maintain as well. Edmunds True Cost to Own calculator shows that it can cost around $2,850 to maintain a Passat over the course of five years. It’s hard to believe, considering that’s a lower maintenance cost than that of the Toyota Camry.

Is it weird to see a Mini Cooper on this list? Maybe. However, you can expect to pay around $800 to $900 a year to maintain a Mini, which isn’t bad considering it’s technically a BMW. You would think that its specialized features and pricey parts would drive up the annual maintenance cost to stratospheric levels, but apparently not. If you’re looking for a go-cart that’s large enough for four adults and easy to maintain, a Mini Cooper could be in your future.

2022 GMC Sierra

Again, it could be surprising to see a truck like the 2022 GMC Sierra on this list. But consider that the Sierra has been around since 1962, which means that GM has had plenty of time to get it right. Fortunately, it did, and you can expect to pay only around $700 a year to keep this large truck properly maintained.
