If you want a luxury car and don’t want to sell a kidney to get it, you’ll have to do some creative car shopping. Luckily for you, some luxury vehicles cost less in depreciation, fuel, maintenance, and insurance than competitors. The result is a handful of newer options, like a Tesla Model 3 or Audi TT, that will save you money over the more cash-intensive luxury cars on the market. Here are some of the cheapest luxury cars to own over five years, according to Kelley Blue Book (KBB).

How much does a Tesla Model 3 cost right now?

A Tesla Model 3 will cost you around $57,990 right now. Unfortunately, Tesla raised the prices of most of its lineup recently, and the Model 3 didn’t make it away unscathed. However, the $3,500 bump doesn’t affect the Performance, which starts at around $62,990. However, even with some of the heightened price tags, the Model 3 takes the top spot on the list of cheapest luxury cars to own. 

With a five-year cost to own of $43,572, the Model 3 is KBB’s cheapest luxury car to own. In addition to the overall victory, the baby Tesla depreciates much less than other luxury cars and EVs. Also, it has the lowest out-of-pocket expenses, insurance, and fuel costs (duh) on the list.

Are Audi TTs expensive to run?

The Audi TT may seem more sports car than a luxury vehicle, but it still took the number two spot for the least expensive luxury cars to own. Even though the TT sports two doors and the RS variant is a proper road rocket, the little vehicle employs Audi’s approach to ultra-modern interiors. According to KBB, the TT has an overall five-year cost to own of $56,710 and depreciates $27,208. However, being an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle, the fuel costs are approximately $8,969, more than $7,000 over the list-topping EV. 

Is the Jaguar XF one of the cheapest luxury cars to own?

The Jaguar XF takes third place on the list of the cheapest luxury cars to own. Defying the old reputation of unreliable construction, the XF has the lowest maintenance and repair costs of any of the top four luxury cars, according to Kelley Blue Book. However, it still requires $61,769 in overall five-year cost to own, about $5,000 more than the Audi TT. While those cars are quite different, they both have spots on the list of the cheapest luxury cars to own. 

How much does a Volvo S90 cost?

A new Volvo S90 has a starting price of $53,895, according to TrueCar. However, KBB reports that the Volvo has some expenses you might want to consider before buying. With fuel costs of $9,278 and depreciation at $33,535, the Volvo will cost you money elsewhere. Still, it makes the list of the cheapest luxury vehicles to own over five years. The five-year cost to own of $62,040 puts it at the bottom of this list but well below other cars in the segment. 

Should you buy one of the cheapest luxury cars?

If you want a vehicle that will surround you in luxury for much less than a Mercedes-Benz S-Class with zero-tailpipe emissions, the Model 3 is the best choice. However, the Audi TT is fun, taut, and notoriously underrated while still beating the other two cars in nearly every category. The Audi TT is a solid option if you’re not ready to go full-electric and don’t want four doors.
