In the United States, the BMW lineup of SUVs sells better than the sports sedans for which the German automaker is famous. And with this high demand, coupled with high inflation, many of them are expensive. However, there is a luxury SUV bargain. It’s the subcompact 2023 BMW X2, the cheapest new BMW SUV in 2023.

2023 BMW X2 subcompact is the most affordable new BMW SUV in 2023

As you can see, some of these models are quite expensive, especially the first-ever XM and the electric iX. There are also pricey high-performance M variants for some of the models. However, the X2, the most affordable new BMW SUV, is a good option for luxury SUV shoppers on a tighter budget.

It’s important to note that the 2023 X2 is no longer available to build and order on the BMW site, so if you want one, you’ll have to go the dealership route. BMW stopped production for the 2023 model in advance of the redesign for the 2024 model year. This is likely a contributing reason for its relatively low price.

2023 X2 provides excellent value

When factoring in the affordability and all that it has to offer, the 2023 BMW X2 provides excellent value. The subcompact luxury SUV delivers excellent performance with its turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, it doles out 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The top speed is 130 mph, while the 0-60 mph acceleration time is 6.1 seconds. Handling is superb, too — with impressive agility and cornering abilities.

The X2 has a stylish and expressive hatchback-like exterior design, while the cabin is luxurious with high-quality craftsmanship. The affordable luxury SUV also offers many useful technologies, such as a head-up display, a Harman Kardon premium sound system, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a wireless smartphone charger, and an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation. There are also safety-enhancing driving assistance technologies, including automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control.

What’s new for the redesigned 2024 X2?

BMW hasn’t yet unveiled the 2024 X2. However, we know some information about the redesigned luxury SUV — based on spy shots and leaked information. Compared to the hatchback-like shape of the outgoing model, the 2024 version has a more aggressive crossover coupe design — per Carscoops. Also, the front fascia is nearly vertical, with sweptback headlights and a mesh grille.

While unconfirmed, the 2024 X2 is expected to have the same 241-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine as the X1, which received a redesign for the 2023 model year. Spy shots also revealed a classy new interior, as well as the same curved display that’s in the redesigned X1.

The price information is not yet available for the 2024 model, but with the new design and upgrades, a bump in cost is expected. However, the 2023 BMW X2 remains an affordable choice. It’s the cheapest new BMW SUV in 2023 — and a luxury SUV bargain.
