Cheapest New Dodge Is the Fastest Affordable SUV: All-New Model!
Dodge has much fewer models than it offered in the past. However, the American automaker is still going strong by offering high-performance models at an affordable price. The latest example of this is the all-new 2023 Dodge Hornet subcompact crossover SUV. It’s the cheapest new Dodge car — and the fastest SUV for under $31,000.
2023 Dodge Hornet crossover SUV is the cheapest new Dodge car
With a starting price of $30,590 MSRP, the 2023 Dodge Hornet is the cheapest new Dodge car. The next most affordable new Dodge model is the 2023 Challenger muscle car ($30,940 MSRP).
Here are the new Dodge cars, ranked from cheapest to most expensive:
- 2023 Dodge Hornet: $30,590 MSRP
- 2023 Dodge Challenger: $30,940 MSRP
- 2023 Dodge Charger: $32,645 MSRP
- 2023 Dodge Durango: $38,495 MSRP
As you can see, Dodge doesn’t offer many models, but the Hornet is the cheapest one. Also, 2023 marks the end of an era — for the iconic Challenger and Charger muscle cars will be discontinued. As Dodge and Stellantis go electric, the Challenger and Charger, which are heavy gas-guzzlers, no longer fit into the picture. However, electric muscle cars are in the works, as shown by the Charger Daytona SRT Concept that was revealed in August 2022.
All-new 2023 Hornet is the fastest and most powerful SUV under $31,000
Not only is the 2023 Dodge Hornet the cheapest new Dodge car, but it’s also fast too. It boasts a 0-60 mph time as low as 6.1 seconds. The quick acceleration comes courtesy of the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain in the R/T model. This marks the first time that Dodge offers an electrified performance vehicle.
With a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor, the plug-in hybrid powertrain generates an output of 285 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. Also, the Hornet R/T PHEV provides an electric-only range of over 30 miles. Using electric-only power in the R/T PHEV lowers fuel consumption — and saves money on gas.
The new subcompact crossover SUV also offers a fully gas-powered model with the GT trim. The Hornet GT more than holds its own for performance, too, for it’s the fastest and most powerful SUV under $31,000. It features a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine, which delivers 265-plus horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. For acceleration, it completes the 0-60 mph sprint in 6.5 seconds.
Furthermore, the Hornet offers various performance features that enhance the driving dynamics. This includes Brembo four-piston brake calipers, Koni shocks, and dynamic torque vectoring. Additionally, there’s a Sport Mode, which provides tighter steering, optimized upshifts, and sharper throttle response. And for confident traction, all models come standard with all-wheel drive.
Other highlights of the Dodge Hornet
The 2023 Dodge Hornet, which shares a platform with its Stellantis cousin, the Alfa Romeo Tonale, has a bold exterior design with distinctive Dodge styling. Inside the new crossover SUV, the cabin is modernistic. It also offers an array of useful technologies and comfort and convenience features. This includes the 10.25-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment system, as well as the class-leading 12.3-inch digital cockpit cluster.
Other interior features offered for the Hornet include a 14-speaker Harman-Kardon premium sound system, Amazon Alexa Built-In, heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. Additionally, for easier cargo loading and unloading, there’s a hands-free power liftgate.
Furthermore, the Hornet offers safety-enhancing driving assistance features. This includes blind spot detection, automatic emergency braking, a lane support system, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, and driver attention assist.
