With a starting price of $26,800 MSRP, the 2022 GMC Canyon is the cheapest new GMC car. The 2023 Canyon costs considerably more ($36,600 MSRP) — but benefits from many upgrades with its redesign. The next most affordable GMC models are the 2023 GMC Terrain ($29,900 MSRP) compact crossover SUV and the 2023 Acadia midsize SUV ($36,800 MSRP). 

Here are the cheapest new GMC cars:

  2. 2023 GMC Terrain: $29,900 MSRP
  3. 2023 GMC Acadia: $36,800 MSRP

  6. 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD: $42,200 MSRP
  7. 2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD: $43,400 MSRP
  8. 2023 GMC Yukon: $57,400 MSRP
  9. 2023 GMC Yukon XL: $60,100 MSRP
  10. 2023 GMC HUMMER EV Pickup: $98,400 MSRP

As you can see, the price of GMC vehicles gets quite high as you move up the model lineup, especially for the HUMMER EV Pickup. Also, for some of the GMC vehicles, there are more expensive AT4 and AT4X off-road versions — as well as luxurious Denali models. However, the 2022 Canyon, the cheapest new GMC car, is an affordable choice.

2022 GMC Canyon offers excellent value with its many superb features

One of the reasons why the price of the 2022 GMC Canyon continues to be so low is the upcoming release of the redesigned 2023 model. The demand for the 2023 model is high, resulting in lower demand for the 2022 version. And when factoring in the low price and all that it has to offer, the 2022 Canyon is a pickup truck bargain. It’s an excellent value choice.

On the performance front, engine options for the midsize truck include a 308-hp 3.6-liter V-6 and a 200-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder. Also, for diesel lovers, there’s the Duramax turbodiesel 2.8-liter four-cylinder engine, which generates 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, when properly equipped, the 2022 Canyon can tow up to 7,700 pounds.

Furthermore, the pickup truck offers a wide array of standard and available features. Examples include heated and cooled front seats, LED signature lighting, the EZ-Lift and Lower Tailgate, a spray-on bedliner, and a heated steering wheel. Also, there are useful technologies, such as the GMC infotainment system with an 8.0-inch touchscreen, a rearview camera, a wireless charger, Amazon Alexa Built-In, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.

2023 Canyon is much better with a thorough redesign

While the redesigned 2023 Canyon is much more expensive than the 2022 model, it’s a better overall pickup truck. This includes better performance, epitomized by the new turbocharged 2.7-liter inline-four engine, which delivers 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. 

Also, the redesigned truck has greater off-road capabilities — with higher ground clearance for all trims. Plus, there’s the all-new AT4X off-road model, with features such as front and rear e-lockers, 33-inch all-terrain tires, a Baja drive mode, and underbody skid plates. 

For the exterior design, the 2023 Canyon has new styling, with an aggressive look and a bolder stance. Also, the interior of the truck is more refined and modern. Plus, it offers new technologies, including a head-up display, Google Built-In, underbody cameras, and a digital driver information center. 

If you’re drawn to the GMC brand and want a budget-friendly pickup truck, then check out the 2022 GMC Canyon. It’s the cheapest new GMC car. Alternatively, you could wait to get the redesigned 2023 model, but it costs much more. Choosing between the two versions is a matter of weighing the affordability of the 2022 model against the upgrades for the 2023 version.
