Cheapest New Honda SUV Has a Fantastic Redesign in 2023
Honda rose to prominence with the iconic Civic and Accord sedans. However, much of the Japanese automaker’s current success is due to its popular lineup of SUVs. While Honda has increased the price of its SUVs, there’s still an affordable option. It’s the subcompact 2023 Honda HR-V, the cheapest new Honda SUV. Also, the HR-V made a big leap forward in 2023 with a fantastic redesign.

The 2023 Honda HR-V has a starting price of $23,800 MSRP, which makes it the cheapest new Honda SUV. The next most affordable new Honda SUV is the compact 2023 CR-V ($28,410 MSRP).
Here are the new Honda SUVs — in order of cheapest to most expensive:
- 2023 Honda HR-V: $23,800 MSRP
- 2023 Honda CR-V: $28,410 MSRP
- 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid: $32,400 MSRP
- 2023 Honda Pilot: $39,150 MSRP
- 2023 Honda Passport: $41,100 MSRP
- 2024 Honda Prologue: TBD
Honda revamped its SUV lineup. Along with the HR-V, the CR-V and the midsize Pilot are redesigned as well. Also, there’s the 2024 Prologue, which is the first all-electric Honda SUV for the North American market. Much of the information about the Prologue is still unknown, including its price, but it’s expected to arrive at dealerships in early 2024.
2023 Honda HR-V is greatly improved with its outstanding redesign
Along with being the cheapest new Honda SUV, the 2023 HR-V has an outstanding design. In recent years, while the HR-V has achieved respectable sales, it was getting overshadowed by rivals such as the Subaru Crosstrek, Hyundai Kona, and Kia Seltos. Also, Toyota introduced a new subcompact SUV with the Corolla Cross.
However, in 2023, the HR-V is greatly improved with its impressive redesign. It has a stylish new look with a larger grille, sleek roofline, and longer hood. It also has redesigned LED headlights and wide LED taillights — and a more sculpted hatch. Furthermore, Honda improved the outward visibility by installing new door-mounted mirrors and lowering the panel between the windshield and hood.
More interior space and better driving dynamics for the HR-V

Another aspect of the redesign is a size increase. The 2023 Honda HR-V is bigger than the previous-generation model, resulting in more interior space. It provides a total passenger volume of 98.7 cu-ft, which is very generous compared to most other subcompact SUVs. There’s also plenty of cargo space — with 24.4 cu-ft behind the rear seats and a total storage capacity of 55.1 cu-ft.
Additionally, the cabin has a more premium look and feel than the outgoing model. Plus, it offers new features, such as an HD nine-inch color infotainment system touchscreen, a seven-inch color TFT display, and body-stabilizing seats for optimal comfort.
Furthermore, the redesigned HR-V has better driving dynamics. Part of this is due to the new independent rear suspension, which improved handling and ride quality. Also, there’s a more powerful engine. The new 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine delivers 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque, which is an increase of 17 hp and 11 lb-ft of torque over the outgoing engine. Additionally, for confident traction, the HR-V offers a new Real Time AWD system.
The affordable 2023 Honda HR-V is a budget-friendly option for SUV shoppers. It’s the cheapest new Honda SUV — and has a fantastic redesign in 2023.
