Hyundai is quickly becoming one of the top brands in the budget-friendly market. With options like the sporty Elantra N and dependable Kona, it is easy to see why the brand is popping up more and more. One of the most prominent names coming from Hyundai is the Sonata. Although it lacks performance and styling without opting for the N-line, it is still one of the best cars in its lineup. The 2023 Hyundai Sonata is efficient, adaptable, and inexpensive.

How much is a 2023 Sonata?

The 2023 Hyundai Sonata is a carryover from the 2022 model year. Only receiving minor equipment changes, the SEL and SEL convenience get a larger 10.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. In addition, the solar roof offered on the Sonata Hybrid Limited is now a panoramic sunroof. Otherwise, the trim levels are essentially unchanged. Starting with the base models, the SE and SEL begin at $26,215 and $28,740, respectively. Next, we have the Blue hybrid and SEL hybrid at $29,215 and $32,565. Finally, moving into the more optioned models, we have the SEL Plus at $33,240.

Moving to the upper trim levels, you have the N-Line at $35,590. The N-Line gives the Sonata a performance boost using a turbo four-cylinder that produces 290 horsepower. Finally, rounding out the top trim levels, there is the Limited and Limited hybrid at $36,240 and $37,515. The Limited trims give you most of the optional features and a few unique safety elements. 

Is the 2023 Hyundai Sonata fast?

While most lower-trim models aren’t fast by any means, the N-Line makes up for it. With a standard SEL trim, a 1.6-liter turbo engine powers the midsize sedan. You will see a spritely 7.3 second 0-60 mph with that engine. Even though it is not breaking records for its class, it scores well enough to settle amongst the middle of the pack. The eight-speed automatic in most of the lineup is crisp and conventional. 

If you are after performance, the Sonata N-Line is the only way to go. Car and Driver noted that the 290 horsepower trim is one of the quickest front-wheel drive cars they have tested. With a flat 5.0 second 0-60 mph time, the Sonata N-Line is only a tenth of a second slower than the 2023 Honda Civic Type R. 

Is Hyundai discontinuing the Sonata?

Unfortunately, the Hyundai Sonata will not live past 2028. With electric vehicles taking over the market, many companies are looking to thin the herd to make room for new models. Not only is the Sonata affected by this, but associated brands like Kia are knocking out the K5 as well. With recent sales numbers also showing that the Sonata is less popular than models like the Elantra, the company is moving to make way for new endeavors. However, even though the car is on its way out, there will be some updates and improvements before its final day. 

Is the 2023 Hyundai Sonata worth it?

Overall, the 2023 Hyundai Sonata is an excellent choice if you are after a midsize sedan. While the base models don’t quite have the features you want, the mid-range SEL Plus gives you the best of both worlds. With the SEL Plus, you get the 180-horsepower turbo engine, 19-inch wheels, and the 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Along with other features, the Sonata SEL Plus is the best midsize sedan in 2023.
