While hybrids tend to be more expensive than their fully gas-powered counterparts, the South Korean automaker offers some affordable options. This includes the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ Hybrid compact hatchback, the cheapest new Hyundai hybrid. It’s also the car with the best gas mileage.

With a starting price of $23,600 MSRP, the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ Hybrid is the cheapest new Hyundai hybrid car. The next most affordable new Hyundai hybrid model is the 2023 Elantra Hybrid compact sedan ($24,400 MSRP).

  3. 2022 Hyundai IONIQ Plug-In Hybrid: $26,800 MSRP
  4. 2023 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid: $28,250 MSRP
  5. 2023 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid: $31,150 MSRP
  6. 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid: $35,910 MSRP
  7. 2023 Hyundai Tucson Plug-In Hybrid: $37,300 MSRP
  8. 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid: $42,110 MSRP

It’s important to note that the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ Hybrid, as well as the plug-in hybrid variant, will soon be discontinued. Versions for the 2023 model year won’t be produced. The compact hybrid is no longer available to order on the Hyundai site, so if you want one, you’ll have to go the dealership route.

Hyundai claims that the reason for the discontinuation is a shift toward other hybrid vehicles. Also, with the all-electric IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6, Hyundai is turning the IONIQ nameplate into an EV sub-brand.

Along with being the cheapest new Hyundai hybrid vehicle, the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ Hybrid is the car with the best gas mileage, per TrueCar. It gets a gas-sipping estimated fuel economy of up to 59 combined mpg. On TrueCar’s list, the next most efficient new model is the 2022 Toyota Prius (56 combined mpg).

  9. 2023 Lexus ES Hybrid: 44 combined mpg
  10. 2022 Toyota Avalon Hybrid: 44 combined mpg

In addition to the IONIQ Hybrid, two other Hyundai models make the top 10 for cars with the highest fuel economy: the 2023 Elantra Hybrid (54 combined mpg) and the 2023 Sonata Hybrid (52 combined mpg.

Also, as expected, Toyota dominates this fuel economy list too. Along with the aforementioned 2022 Prius, this includes the 2022 Prius Prime (54 combined mpg), 2023 Camry Hybrid (52 combined mpg), 2023 Corolla Hybrid (50 combined mpg), and 2022 Avalon Hybrid (44 combined mpg).
