It’s no secret among friends and family that I have a slight obsession with Jurassic Park. I watch the movies regularly, own more T-Rex models than I should, and have longed for a Jurassic Park Jeep since the moment I watched Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler roll-up on a living, breathing (but very CGI) Brachiosaurus while behind the wheel of a Jeep Wrangler. All in all, I’m a big fan. That’s why, when I stumbled upon this junkyard find turned Jurassic Park Jeep, I couldn’t help but share it.

Turning this abandoned Wrangler into a Jurassic Park Jeep

Unfortunately for this particular Jeep Wrangler, it was abandoned in a junkyard. Left to rot and succumb to some pretty colorful mold. Fortunately, AMMO NYC was more than willing to save the abandoned Wrangler from its junkyard fate and treat it to a thorough wash. And when I mean thorough, I’m talking really thorough because this particular Jeep took being dirty to a whole new level. 

But once its exterior and interior were looking brand spanking new again? AMMO NYC proved that the process of giving a Jeep Wrangler some Jurassic Park flair is actually pretty easy. In just a few minutes, AMMO NYC applied plasti-dip red paint to recreate the Wrangler driven in the original Jurassic Park Movie. Of course, the same was done to the Wrangler’s wheels. 

And to give it that true Jurassic Park feel, AMMO NYC added the park’s iconic logo to the Jeep’s door. And with that? The AMMO NYC team took the top of its freshly painted Wrangler off and called it a job well done.

Did Jeep ever release its own Jurassic Park Jeep?

Not exactly. While the automaker probably could have capitalized on the movie by releasing its own Jurassic Park styled Jeep, it didn’t. But according to Jurassic Park Fandom, you can scoop up the very same model that was used in the movie. All of the Jeeps used in the original Jurassic Park movie are 1992 Jeep Wrangler YJ Sahara models in Sand Beige Low Gloss Metallic. 

Unfortunately, Jurassic Jeep reports that scoring one of these Jeeps is pretty challenging because 1992 was the only year this particular color was available. It was also only available on the Sahara package. According to Jurassic Jeep, that makes them pretty rare, and extremely uncommon to come across.

How to build your very own Jurassic Park Jeep

But if you aren’t going for authenticity, there is some good news. You don’t actually have to buy a 1992 Jeep Wrangler YJ Sahara to create your very own Jurassic Park Jeep. Though, if you’re lucky enough to find one hanging out in a junkyard, I’d recommend grabbing some lottery tickets before the day’s up. Anyway.

If you’re set on building a Jurassic Park Jeep of your own, On the Road Again suggests sticking with a Wrangler YJ to get those square headlights seen in the movie. According to On the Road Again, you should also be picking from the 1987-1995 model years. Though, newer is better, especially if you’re looking for a more refined ride.

But once you’ve got your hands on the perfect Jeep Wrangler YJ? It’s time to get painting. Of course, you’ll probably have to do some digging to find the exact shade of beige that you need. But that red? That’s easy enough to grab. And the Jurassic Park logo? That’s an easy one too. Check out Amazon, or even Etsy for that.
