Chevrolet recently debuted the 2023 Corvette Z06 and its specs are very supercar-like. This hardcore version of the C8 Corvette is powered by a naturally aspirated V8 engine that produces 670 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. But if that power just isn’t enough for you, then you can always buy a standard C8 Corvette and supercharge it.

How much horsepower does the C8 Corvette Stingray make?

While the 2023 Corvette Z06 is an absolute stunner when it comes to making horsepower, its pricing and availability may deter some prospective Corvette owners. For those that can’t afford it, buying a 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray could be a better option. For a mere $62,000, you can have a mid-engine sports car with a very powerful 6.2-liter V8 engine.

That naturally aspirated mill produces 490 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque, but those figures can be upgraded to 495 and 470, respectively, with the addition of the Z51 Performance package. According to Car and Driver’s testing, the C8 Corvette with the Z51 package was able to go from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds and down the quarter-mile in only 11.2 seconds. That’s really fast for a production car, but for some enthusiasts, that’s not fast enough. Enter the LT2 Procharger Supercharger from Boost District.

What is the Procharger Supercharger?

The Procharger Supercharger from Boost District is a bolt-on supercharger kit that can now be installed on a 2020-2021 C8 Corvette. According to CarBuzz, the kit uses a positive displacement Eaton TVS R2650 rotor pack for the best reliability as it doesn’t require any additional maintenance. The supercharger’s machined housing leaves room for more airflow and the entire kit is completely bolt-on as no modifications to the car’s body are required.

An air-to-water intercooler is also included in the kit and it even has a CNC billet intake manifold. Boost District says that the kit should add around 170 to 180 more horsepower to the already stout C8 Corvette or 225 hp with the methanol injection kit, which will put it in the 720-plus horsepower category. The only downside is that the kit retails for $12,995, which means that you’ll spend around $75,000 or so on a standard C8 Corvette with over 700 horsepower, but we doubt that anyone that can afford that price tag will likely complain.

Is it better to buy a supercharged C8 Corvette over a 2023 Corvette Z06?

From a value standpoint, yes. Car and Driver estimates that the 2023 Corvette Z06 will have a starting price of around $90,000, which means that you will spend more for less power. However, there’s no arguing that listening to the sweet symphony of a naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V8 engine revving up to 8,600 rpm is probably worth the extra money.

Couple that powertrain with race-bred suspension parts, larger brakes, and a smooth-shifting eight-speed, dual-clutch transmission, and you have yourself a true street-worthy racecar. But if you really can’t afford it, then the standard C8 Corvette with a supercharger and over 700 horsepower will have to do. Such a shame, isn’t it?
