That’s right, the 2023 Chevrolet Malibu made the list despite the disappearance of its closest rival, the Ford Fusion, in 2020. Still, the Malibu came in dead last, well behind competition like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.

The Chevrolet Malibu is the Bow Tie’s best-selling car of 2023 so far. As of October, Chevy sold nearly 112,000 Malibu sedans, almost five times the brand’s Camaro sales. Consequently, the Malibu is the only gas-powered American car on the list of the best-selling sedans in 2023. 

Of course, the Malibu is well behind the brand’s more popular models, like the Chevrolet Silverado and Equinox. In fact, the popular Chevy pickup truck outsold the Malibu nearly four times over. Moreover, GoodCarBadCar reports that the Chevy sold 115,468 Malibu sedans in 2022. If trends continue, the Malibu will enjoy more year-over-year sales success, a welcome bump after the dismal 39,376 units Chevrolet sold in 2021. 

What kind of cars does Chevrolet make?

Of course, Chevrolet only produces two cars for its modern lineup: the Malibu midsize sedan and the Camaro two-door performance car. However, Chevy will soon discontinue the Camaro, ending its sixth-generation run in favor of a Camaro SUV. Moreover, the Malibu isn’t likely to run more than another couple of model years; the brand’s SUVs are much more lucrative.

Still, despite the end of the Ford Fusion, Lincoln MKZ, Chrysler 300, and Dodge Charger, the Malibu isn’t heading out of production just yet. However, with the undeniable popularity of SUVs and crossovers, the Malibu will likely have to evolve to survive, not unlike the Charger’s upcoming evolution into an EV coupe. 

How many Chevy Malibu models sold in 2023?

Year to date, the Bow Tie has sold 111,448 Chevrolet Malibu sedans in 2023. While that puts it on track to outsell its previous year, the figures establish it as the No. 6 best-selling four-door sedan in the United States for 2023 so far. 

According to Car and Driver, the Malibu made the list of the best-selling vehicles in the United States, but just barely. Specifically, the Malibu took the No. 25 spot on the list of the best-selling models across all marques, just 749 units ahead of the Chrysler Pacifica minivan. 

Will there be a 2024 Chevrolet Malibu?

Chevrolet will produce a Malibu in 2024, although it won’t receive many updates for the new year. However, fans should expect a new generation or massive reimagining of the nameplate in the coming years.
