Last month, LendingTree released a study on aggressive and careless drivers based on NHTSA data. It appears that drivers of certain makes and models tend to express road rage – including aggressive or careless driving – more than others. They’re not all cars, either. Let’s look at the data.

According to the study, Chevrolet Silverado drivers took the prize for aggressive and careless driving, followed by Ford F-150 and Honda Accord operators. In 2022, Silverado truck drivers caused 133 fatal accidents rooted in aggressive or careless driving. F-150 pickup drivers landed in second place, having caused 95 deadly crashes. Honda Accord sedan drivers clocked 74 fatal collisions.

By brand, Chevrolet drivers were implicated in 439 fatal accidents wherein aggressive or careless driving was cited. Ford clocked 412, and Honda’s counts totaled 275.

LendingTree acknowledged that the popularity of these cars plays a role in their high placement on the list. However, not all of the makes highlighted are the most common vehicles on the road.

Notably, Harley-Davidson landed in 6th place for aggressive or careless driving fatalities, while Yamaha took 9th. The NHTSA says that in 2021, the fatality rate for motorcyclists was nearly 24 times higher than the fatality rate for passenger cars.

Men caused 78% of these accidents. Additionally, millennial drivers ages 26 to 41 were flagged most in the study. This demographic drove 35% of deadly “road rage” crashes in 2022.

In terms of location, Louisiana, Delaware, and the District of Columbia were the top three spots for fatal aggressive or careless car crashes in 2022. A whopping 40% of the country’s deadly car accidents with roots in aggressive or careless driving occurred in Louisiana.
