Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Carhartt SEMA Debut
SEMA isn’t only about aftermarket companies and crazy modifications. Sometimes, displays at the show turn into vehicles people can buy straight from the factory. A few years ago, Chevrolet teamed up with work-apparel company (and also Michigan-based) Carhartt to create a concept based on the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD. Now, at this year’s SEMA, a new concept has appeared. And this time, the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Carhartt Edition will be a fully-fledged production pickup. Here are all the details you should know about it.
The Original Carhartt Concept
The first Carhartt Edition was based on the 2017 Silverado 2500HD. Powered by a 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8, most of the modifications were cosmetic. The interior featured heavy use of Carhartt’s “signature duck brown garment material” on the armrests, door panel inserts, and the seats. The Carhartt logo was also on the headrests.
Outside, the truck was painted Carbon Flash black and featured Carhartt gold pinstripes. The grille, tow rings, mirror caps, and 20” wheels were also finished in antique nickel.
There were also several official Chevrolet accessories installed. In the bed was a mounted toolbox and swing-out tool chest, as well as perimeter lighting and electrical outlets. The truck also came with a 20” LED lightbar, assist steps, and trailering mirrors linked to the camera system.
At the time, the concept was just that: a concept. But according to Chevrolet and Motor1, the truck received enough positive attention for the automaker to consider a production version. And now, the production version is ready to launch.
2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Carhartt Special Edition: Design Specs
As with the concept, the new truck is based on the current Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD. There are also quite a few other similarities.
The most obvious are the exterior colors. Once again, the main color is black, only now it’s Mosaic Black Metallic. That’s also the only exterior color available. The black coloring carries to other parts of the Silverado. Both front and rear bumpers are body-colored. The hood features black vent detailing; the tow hooks are black, as is the bowtie emblem on the tailgate. But the pinstripes are Carhartt gold. The Carhartt logo also features throughout the rest of the truck. On the outside, it can be found on the doors, tailgate, and soft rollup bed cover. A chrome grille surround and inserts complete the outside modifications.
The production truck’s interior does have less Carhartt clothing material than the original. Specifically, it’s only on the seats. They’re two-tone, Jet Black and Carhartt Brown leather-appointed with unique stitching. However, the Carhartt logo does appear on the all-weather floor liners and on the embroidered headrests.
2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Carhartt Special Edition: Mechanical Specs
The production truck also differs mechanically from the original. The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Carhartt is based on the LTZ crew cab and comes with the Z71 Off-Road Package. This includes Rancho twin-tube off-road shocks, skid plates, and Chevrolet’s Hill Descent Control. However, Chevrolet has not revealed if the Carhartt Edition will be available with both the 6.6-liter gasoline V8 and the 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8.
Silverado 2500HD Carhartt Pricing and Availability
Official pricing for this special edition heavy-duty Silverado hasn’t been revealed yet. The LTZ trim starts at $54,895 for the 6.6-liter gasoline V8 and $64,785 for the diesel. Hopefully, the pricing will be unveiled before the Carhartt Editions reach dealers in fall 2020.
