Chevrolet’s New Corvette E-Ray Has Multiple Driving Modes to Maximize Its Potential
The new 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray takes the already groundbreaking mid-engine ‘Vette platform and adds hybrid technology. As a result, the new Corvette Hybrid promises an advanced eAWD supercar-killer and a series of firsts for the Corvette namesake. Moreover, the new hybrid Chevrolet model also packs specific driving modes that the automaker designed to get the most out of its first production performance-oriented hybrid.
What is the E-Ray Corvette?
The E-Ray Corvette is Chevrolet’s first performance-oriented hybrid and the first AWD Corvette ever. It will arrive as a 2024 model and promises to take the Chevrolet performance model into the next generation.
Better yet, with a claimed 0-60 mph time of around 2.5 seconds, the new E-Ray is the fastest-accelerating Corvette in history. However, the new hybrid supercar is more than quick launches; it has a series of driving modes that Chevrolet designed to help potential owners get the most out of their E-Ray.
The new 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray has multiple driving modes
The new 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray has six driving modes, two electric propulsion modes, and a Charge+ mode to maximize battery performance. The driving modes include Sport, Track, Tour, Weather, My Mode, and Z-Mode. Aside from the performance-oriented sport and track modes, Tour and Weather modes promise to help the eAWD Corvette compose itself as a daily driver with grand tourer credentials. Moreover, Cars.com says Z-Mode and My Mode allow drivers to configure their preferences on everything from steering and suspension to brakes and throttle response.
In addition to the conventional driving modes in the new E-Ray, the Corvette features two electric drive modes specific to the first model to pack an electric motor and lithium-ion battery architecture. First, the new hybrid Corvette features “Stealth Mode,” which puts the car into an electric-drive mode capable of speeds up to 45 mph. Once the driver exceeds 45 mph, uses all of the battery’s charge, or attempts to accelerate quickly, the E-Ray switches its 6.2L LT2 V8 on for additional assistance.
In addition to Stealth Mode, the new Corvette features “Shuttle Mode.” Shuttle Mode simply deactivates the gas-powered V8 in a mode designed to help you move your car in a confined environment. For instance, the Shuttle mode could help you play musical cars in a driveway or garage. ABC News reports that, unlike Stealth Mode, Shuttle Mode will “never fire the engine.”
Will the E-Ray be a plug-in?
While some fans and enthusiasts thought the new 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray would be a plug-in hybrid, it isn’t. Instead, the E-Ray uses a 1.9 kWh self-charging battery pack. Still, the new Chevrolet model can drive on electric propulsion, but only for a limited distance.
How much is the E-Ray Corvette?
The new E-Ray Corvette starts at around $104,295 for the 1LZ trim coupe with a removable roof. The 2LZ and range-topping 3LZ coupes start at about $108,400 and $113,850, respectively. Of course, the convertible demands a bit more, around $7,000 for each trim.
