There is an unofficial beast in the works. Perhaps the return of the Chevy Blazer was a fumble, but that doesn’t mean other off-roading vehicles to tackle the Ford Bronco Raptor aren’t in the works. The Chevy Beast or Off-Road concept could dethrone the Ford Bronco. 

The Chevy Beast looks pretty mean 

The Chevy Beast was the name of a new off-roader concept presented at the SEMA show. However, due to possible copyright issues, it has been renamed the Chevy Off-Road Concept. But once you look at this truck, you can clearly see that it lives up to the beast title. 

It almost looks like a traditional Chevy Blazer was remodeled with a futuristic look. The square chassis has been stretched to provide sleeker lines, and the best sits pretty high off the ground on massive knobby tires. LED lights accent the headlights and bowtie. 

What to expect with the Chevy Off-Road Concept 

Did the Telsa Cybertruck and Chevy Blazer have a baby? Did a vehicle come out of the Halo video gamer series and become real? These are the types of questions that the formerly named Chevy Beast is bringing to the table. 

The Chevy Off-Road Concept is an off-roader that can seat up to four passengers. It’s based on a modified Silverado chassis and wears a unique body. It’s powered by a Chevrolet Performance 650-hp supercharged crate engine. 

But is 650-hp enough? The 2023 Ford Bronco Raptor could use the same twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine that’s used in the 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor. It provides 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. 

The 2022 Ford Raptor R could gain the Predator V8 engine from the Shelby Mustang GT500. It provides 760-hp, and, interestingly, this engine isn’t being rumored for the Ford Bronco R. If the Bronco Raptor doesn’t gain this engine, then the Chevy Beast could leave it in the dust. 

Jim Campbell, General Motors United States Vice President, shared that the Chevy Off-Road Concept takes the popularity of high-performance off-roading trucks to the next level. It’s a vision for a new dimension of Chevrolet Performance capability from a brand that’s been pioneering performance and supporting customer personalization for over 40 years. 

How capable is the Chevy Off-Road Concept?

The Chevy Beast, we mean the Chevy Off-Road Concept, was designed to dominate the desert. It was modified for high-speed desert running with a shortened frame and a custom-designed 4130 Chromoly tubular safety structure that’s integrated while the chassis was wrapped with a custom, lightweight body. 

A long-travel off-road suspension system concept was developed for the vehicle and includes a five-link rear suspension. It has a 91-inch track to provide more stable handling optional driver control during high-speed off-road driving. 

The Chevy Off-Road concept sits on 37-inch off-road tires that are mounted to 20-inch Beadlock wheels. The engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and a two-speed transfer case.

We haven’t seen the interior, but it features a minimalist yet functional design complete with four Recaro performance seats with four-point harnesses. A pair of 7-inch diagonal LCD screens monitor vehicle performance data and functions. 

We hope to learn more about the Off-Road Concept soon. It may have a confident name like the Chevy Beast and could wipe the Ford Bronco Raptor out.
