The Chevy Blazer SS Still Isn’t What Fans Want
What do people want? A square-shaped Chevy Blazer SUV that could dominate the Ford Bronco. When do people want it? Yesterday! Also, people are getting the all-electric 2024 Chevy Blazer SS instead. At least it’s bringing the heat.
The 2024 Chevy Blazer SS is neat but not for off-roading
It seems like the 2024 Chevy Blazer SS is taking a play from the Ford playbook. It’s the first sporty EV in the Chevrolet lineup with a classic name. Ford took the Mustang moniker and applied it to the Ford Mustang Mach-E.
But the Mustang has always been a muscle car. The Chevy Blazer used to be an iconic off-roading beast that fans miss dearly. At least the Ford Bronco returned from the grave with a retro boxy look and plenty of off-roading capabilities.
The Blazer reemerged as a cross-over that’s slightly based on the Chevy Camaro. It’s an SUV for tackling the city with comfort, style, and tons of power. It looks nothing like the original Blazer, though.
What to expect with the Blazer SS
We’ve only seen teasers about the 2024 Chevy Blazer SS so far. Information is being kept under wraps. According to Motor Trend, General Motors executive Mark Reuss shared that the new Blazer EV will be an affordable, high-volume entry.
An affordable electric SUV does sound nice if it has enough range. The 2022 Blazer starts at about $33,400, which seems high for a two-row SUV. the Blazer SS may cost a little more due to the electric components. The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E starts at about $43,895.
The teasers show a hand plugging the Blazer SS into charge. However, the images are simulations. The production model is expected to vary. It’s possible that the Chevy Blazer SS will look entirely different, like the Mach-E.
We know that the Blazer is expected to receive a refresh for 2023. Typically a vehicle refresh consists of minor tweaks to the headlights, taillights, and bumpers. New wheel designs are often included. Plus, the interior might gain higher-quality materials and updated tech.
The current Blazer is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 228 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the 3.6-liter V6 engine that pumps out 306 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque.
We wonder how much power the Blazer SS will have. It will probably ride on the Ultium EV vehicle platform and be powered by Ultium battery cells.
What about the Chevy Beast?
If the 2024 Chevy Blazer SS isn’t the off-roading SUV that we want, can the Chevy Beast fill the gap? It’s based on the Chevy Silverado platform but is reduced to a four-door SUV. It also has a supercharged V8 engine with 650 hp.
It looks like a dune buggy, and it’s designed for high-speed desert racing. But we haven’t heard much about it since it debuted at the 2021 SEMA show. Perhaps fans didn’t have a good reaction to the potential Raptor fighter.
The Beast could also be used as a military vehicle instead of a civilian option. Things aren’t looking too bright for an off-roading SUV that could rival the Jeep Wrangler and Frod Bronco. Instead of beefing up an SUV, Chevy seems to be more focused on enhancing trucks to tackle the wild.
We will update you as we learn more. Currently, we expect to learn more about the 2024 Chevy Blazer SS in the spring of 2023. That feels lightyears away.
