General Motors keeps having recalls pop up daily. Today’s recall involves the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon as yesterday’s covered the full-size trucks. The 2023 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon may experience sudden emergency braking.

Imagine taking a ride in your General Motors truck and suddenly coming to a random complete stop. This is a real possibility for the 2023 GMC Cayon and Chevy Colorado, because of a software issue. 

Roughly 55,755 Canyon and Colorado trucks are being recalled due to the potential for the emergency brakes to engage without warning. 

The problem is related to the front-facing camera. The front camera module (FCM) may falsely detect an obstacle, causing the emergency braking system to activate. 

This is dangerous as sudden braking may increase the risk of accidents and injuries. The braking is very abrupt, leaving hardly any time for surrounding traffic to react. 

If your truck is involved, you will have to visit a local General Motors dealership for service. Technicians will inspect the FCM and provide an update free of charge. 

It would be easier if an over-the-air update could correct the problem, but oh well. The Chevy Colorado and Canyon have suffered from OTA updates that drained the batteries before. 

General Motors will begin notifying owners at risk via mail starting April 8. The GM number for this recall is A232424600.
