New compact trucks like the Ford Maverick have been trending for months, while names like the Chevrolet Montana sit on the back burner. We’re all in on the tiny truck game and would enjoy some competition. However, the 2023 Chevy Montana might need more muscle for America. 

How much power does the 2023 Chevy Montana have? 

The 2023 Chevy Montana is tiny, but perhaps it isn’t might. Reportedly, one of the engine options is a 1.2-liter turbo three-cylinder engine that provides 130 hp and 140 lb-ft of torque. This wouldn’t cut it against the Ford Maverick. 

With the Maverick, the standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid setup that’s paired with an electric motor cranks out 191 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine for 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. 

However, other rumors suggest that the new Chevy Montana has an updated engine. According to Chevy Car USA, the old unit provides 230 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque, and now it could pump out as much as 300 hp. 

It could also share the same engine with the Chevy Tracker, which provides up to 177 hp. Plus, a new engine for the Redline model could be in the works. 

But it speculates that the Montana will only be able to tow up to 3,500 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,000 lbs. The Maverick can tow up to 4,000 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,564 lbs. Also, the Hyundai Santa Cruz can tow up to 5,000 lbs, putting it in the midsize truck range. 

What do we know about the Montana? 

While the 2023 Chevy Montana could have a sporty look with styling cues from the Chevrolet Blazer, it’s actually based on the Chevy Tracker. 

Both vehicles ride on the GEM platform and can be manufactured together. This makes it easy to use the same engine and other components. 

The truck features a unibody design and can be equipped with all-wheel drive. It should handle more like a sporty SUV than a truck. Also, it could be available with a six-speed manual transmission that probably won’t make it to America. 

Also, the Montana has an interior that matches larger trucks such s the Chevy Silverado and Chevy Colorado. The 8-inch infotainment screen, digital gauge cluster, and layout look similar. It’s just smaller. 

How much does the Montana cost? 

The 2023 Chevy Montana price could start around $22,725, which is about $1,730 more than the base Ford Maverick. However, if bringing it to America adds the 25 percent chicken tax, then it could cost more. 

It’s currently unclear if the Montana will come to America. It’s possible that the engines don’t meet the higher emission standards in the United States. But don’t give up hope. Perhaps the truck can be fitted with different engines. 

We should learn more about the Montana soon. It will make its global debut early in 2023. It will be produced in Brazil with the Tracker, which is also available in China.
