Chevy Silverado 1500 Production to Be Put on Pause
In the world of full-size trucks, the Chevy Silverado 1500 does quite well for GM. The 2023 Silverado 1500 comes with a variety of powertrain options, a usable interior, and can out-tow the Ram 1500. But as vehicle supply continues to rise after it dipped significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic, production might be too high. GM has announced a temporary pause on production of its full-size trucks, like the 2023 Silverado 1500 pickup.
When can you order a new 2023 Silverado?
As it stands, you should not have problems ordering the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. This truck first began production in 2022, and most options and configurations are still available. So, if you like GM’s full-size truck, it might not be hard to find one that fits your specific needs.
According to Car and Driver, this is a good pickup. It feels tough, although there are some shortcomings when compared to the competition. Most notably, the fact that its ride is not as comfortable as trucks like the Ford F-150 or Ram 1500. Still, Chevy trucks have quite the following. So clearly, GM is doing something right.
GM to pause production of the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500
If you’ve been paying attention to the car market for the past few years, this might seem kind of nuts. But GM is pausing the production of its full-size trucks for two weeks at one of its truck plants. The pause will take place at the Ford Wayne Assembly plant and should start toward the end of March.
This pause is not due to any quality control issues; GM is just trying to get its supply in line with industry standards. That means targeting a 50 to 60 day supply of inventory for trucks like the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500.
As it stands, production of this truck has risen, but sales have not necessarily kept up. Because of this increase in supply, it can be easy for a pickup to sit at a dealership longer than the shop would like. The goal of the temporary pause is to match inventory supply with demand.
Although production will be shut down at the Fort Wayne plant, other truck production plants will continue making pickups. So, a shortage of Chevy Silverado 1500 models is not expected.
Is demand for new trucks down?
According to GM Authority, there has been a dip in demand for new pickup trucks. There could be a few reasons behind this, but it looks like a lot of consumers are turning to the used market to get a like-new vehicle. Interest rates have been increasing, so that new car loan probably doesn’t look as attractive as it did in 2019.
At the end of the day, the Silverado 1500 remains Chevy’s most popular vehicle. It ranges from being a work truck to a legit luxury pickup. And although there is not a Silverado 1500 that truly competes with the F-150 Raptor or Ram TRX, it does have some solid off-road chops.
