Update: Chevy Silverado EV Already Has Incredible Advantages
The battle between electric trucks is starting to get spicy, especially with the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV on the way. The Ford F-150 Lightning should be a little nervous because the electric Chevrolet Silverado already makes the competition look weak.
The Chevy Silverado EV has more range
One of the most important things to consider with an electric truck is range, and the Chevy Silverado EV might have the Ford F-150 Lightning beat. The Chevrolet Silverado EV claims to have a 400-mile range.
With the standard F-150 Lightning, you get an estimated 230 miles of range on a full charge. The extended battery should provide up to 300 miles of range. However, these figures haven’t been tested by the EPA.
Expect faster charging times. The 2024 Silverado EV claims that it can replenish about 100 miles in 10 minutes. With the DC fast charger, the F-150 gains about 54 miles in 10 minutes.
Plus, the Silverado EV is arriving with more power. While the Silverado WT EV can tow up to 10,000 lbs, a model that can tow 20,000 lbs is on the way. This will double the Ford F-150 Lightning’s towing capacity of 10,000 lbs.
What to expect with the electric Chevy Silverado
The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV will arrive in 2023 as it enters production. Sometimes it’s called the Silverado E instead of the EV. But either way, this new electric truck is ready to challenge the competition.
Even though the Rivian R1T has already entered production and the Ford F-150 Lightning will beat it to the streets, the electric Chevrolet truck is already the second most popular option. Truck buyers ranked the Ford F-150 Lightning ahead of the Silverado EV, and the Rivian R1T came in last.
It’s more popular than the GMC Hummer EV too, but that could be due to pricing. The Hummer EV Edition 1 has a $112,595 price tag. The Silverado EV will be more focused on accessibility that fleets can afford.
The Silverado EV will use the dedicated-electric structural sandwich approach from the Hummer EV. It also uses a four-wheel steer system that’s described as more of a mobility and steering aid compared to the Hummer EV’s Crab mode. Ford started with a body-on-frame platform but will move to a modular platform in 2025.
Does the Silverado EV have good features?
We finally know more about the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV. We’re attracted to the massive moonroof and traditional truck styling. The grille does look. a bit more moderns with a long LED light across the front, like the F-150 Lightning. The truck may ride on 24-inch wheels.
The Silverado EV comes with a massive 17.0-inch infotainment system and the 11.0-inch digital gauge cluster looks great. Upgrade to the Silverado RST EV for access to the General Motors Super Cruise
But we will have to wait to learn more. Chevrolet hasn’t released all the details about the all-electric Silverado yet. Although, so far, we can tell that the Ford F-150 Lightning should be nervous. The Silverado EV may not arrive until the summer of 2023 but it will have more range and power.
