Your Chevy Silverado EV Could Arrive a Few Years Later
Are you ready to wait for your Chevy Silverado EV to arrive? Because your 2024 Chevy Silverado EV could be delayed until 2025. General Motors might not keep up with demand due to offering too many new electric vehicles at once.
How many 2024 Chevy Silverado EV reservations are there?
The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV already has over 110,000 reservations, including more than 240 fleet owners. People are super excited about the electric Chevy Silverado Work Truck.
In fact, the Chevy Silverado EV First Edition sold out in about 12 minutes. But General Motors CEO Mary Barra hasn’t revealed the number of reservations for that model. You can still put in a reservation for the WT and RST models.
You can reserve a model online with a $100 deposit. You will need to fill out a form online with a local Chevrolet dealership. The Silverado WT will be available to fleets in the Spring of 2023, and the Rally Sport Edition will be available in the fall.
Can the Silverado EV keep up with demand?
According to Pickup Truck Talk, the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV may struggle to keep up with demand. Part of the production time depends on how many people convert their reservations to orders.
General Motors also has quite a few GMC Hummer EV orders to fill as well. Plus, there’s the Cadillac Lyric, GMC Sierra EV, and Chevy Bolt to account for. General Motors could still be replacing Bolt batteries too.
On top of that, General Motors plans to provide electric versions of the Chevy Blazer and Equinox before the Silverado EV.
Barras recently addressed investors with a promise to increase General Motors’ EV production to 400,000 units in 2022 and 2023, which is a significant number. Also, they plan to increase EV capacity to one million units by 2025. But it might not help the Silverado EV get out the door faster.
With over 100,000 reservations, 25 percent of the entire GM electric vehicle output would need to be dedicated to the Silverado EV models. But that doesn’t seem possible. Even if General Motors can manufacture 50,000 EVs by 2023, over half of the reservations would be left unfilled.
Even by tripling output to 150,000 units by 2024, most Silverado EV preorders still wouldn’t arrive until late 2024 or early 2025. These figures don’t account for additional orders which can still be placed or dealer deliveries.
Is the Silverado EV worth waiting for?
Maybe, we haven’t been able to test the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV yet. Chevrolet also hasn’t released all of the specs yet. The available 200.0-kWh battery pack offers an estimated 400 miles of range.
The keyword there is estimated. It could be better or worse. Also, if that battery pack is optional, then what comes standard? The Silverado EV also offers up to 664 hp and up to 10,000 lbs of towing capacity.
If you compare the Chevy Silverado WT with the base model of the Hummer EV, it may have a range of between 250 to 300 miles. Also, the WT offers 510 hp and 615 lb-ft of torque, while the RST model provides 664 hp and 780 lb-ft of torque.
Pricing for the Silverado EV ranges between $39,900 for the entry-level WT trim and $105,000 for the fully loaded RST model. We will keep you updated as we learn more to determine if it’s worth it.
