The Chevy Silverado EV Will Debut at CES 2022
The Chevrolet Silverado has long been a popular choice for the large light-duty pickup truck segment, with its high-level durability, powerful engine options, and towing prowess. Now the truck enters the electric vehicle era with the Chevy Silverado EV. Chevrolet announced that the Silverado will make its debut in January 2022. Chevy Silverado EV: Debut at CES 2022
The biggest competitor of the Chevy Silverado, the Ford F-150, will soon offer the all-electric Lightning model. In the wake of this, it’s only natural that the Silverado would follow suit with an electric model as well. Anticipation has been building for the Silverado EV, but the wait will soon be over.
The Chevy Silverado EV will make its debut on January 5, 2022, at CES. CES, held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, is the world’s premier technology event. GM CEO Marry Barra will give an opening keynote speech at CES and reveal the Chevy Silverado EV.
Chevy Silverado EV availability and cost
The Chevy Silverado EV is expected to be released in late 2023 or early 2024. Considering the production delays that plagued other electric trucks like the Tesla Cybertruck and Ford F-150 Lightning, this release date is not guaranteed. Also, the price information is not yet available for the Silverado EV. The gas-powered 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 costs $30,400 for the base model. However, you can expect the Silverado EV to cost considerably more than this.

Chevrolet released a short teaser video of the Silverado EV. The video is very short, so if you blink, you might miss it. In the video, there’s an overhead view of the Silverado EV with a fixed glass roof. There will be both retail and fleet versions of the Silverado EV, but only the retail versions will offer the glass roof. There’s no word from Chevrolet on whether the fixed glass roof is standard for the Silverado EV, but it likely will be an optional feature.
Beyond the fixed glass roof, details about the Silverado EV are sparse. Chevrolet stated the Silverado will offer “expansive visibility, increased headroom, and an enhanced experience of spaciousness for both front and rear passengers.” Also, if you take a close look at the teaser video, you’ll see a massive touchscreen that lights up a good chunk of the dashboard. There are also knobs on the console, so the media system won’t feature only touch controls.
What’s the electric range of the Silverado EV?
According to Chevrolet, the Silverado EV will have an electric range of more than 400 miles when fully charged. The Silverado will feature the Ultium Platform, as well as Four-Wheel Steer, which enables the driver to steer the truck on all four wheels. Customers will have a wide variety of options to customize the Silverado EV to suit their needs and tastes.
There’s a great deal of excitement for electric pickup trucks. The F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1T, Tesla Cybertruck, and GMC Hummer EV Pickup will soon be available for customers. With the Silverado EV, it’s better late than never. Stay tuned, and check out the debut of the Silverado EV next January.
