It’s time for another SUV battle as the Chevrolet Suburban faces the new Jeep Wagoneer. While the 2022 Chevy Suburban is an excellent choice, the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer is brand new. See if the old Suburban can keep up with this young whippersnapper. 

2022 Chevy Suburban vs. 2022 Jeep Wagoneer

Let’s start with pricing. You can get started in a 2022 Chevy Suburban for about $54,700, and the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer begins at $58,995. So, you can save about $4,295 with the Suburban, but the Wagoneer may include enough value to be worth the extra cash. 

Moving up in trim levels with both SUVs can quickly increase the price to over $73,000. Also, the MSRPs don’t include destination fees or dealership markups. 

The Suburban gets an EPA-estimated 21 mpg in the city and up to 27 mpg on the highway. The Wagoneer gets an EPA-estimated 16 mpg in the city and up to 22 mpg on the highway. So, go with the Suburban to save on fuel costs. 

Does the Wagoneer or Suburban have more power? 

The 2022 Chevy Suburban comes with a standard 5.3-liter V8 engine with 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the 6.2-liter V8 engine for 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Also, the 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 cranks out 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. 

According to Edmunds, the Suburban can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.7 seconds. When properly equipped the Suburban can tow up to 8,300 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,884 lbs. 

With the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer, you get a 5.7-liter V8 engine that provides 392 hp and 404 lb-ft of torque. This is the sole engine option, but a 3.0-liter inline-four engine with 420 hp is joining the lineup for 2023.

It can reach 60 mph in about 5.7 seconds and tow up to 9,850 lbs. It provides the best-in-class towing figure. Also, it can carry a payload of up to 1,450 lbs. 

When it comes to off-roading, the Suburban Z71 comes with 20-inch all-terrain tires, tow hooks, a front skid plate, a two-speed transfer case, and Hill Descent control. 

For tackling the wild, the Wagoneer can be equipped with 20-inch aluminum wheels, all-terrain tires, multiple skid plates, an electronic limited-slip differential, a two-speed transfer case, tow hooks in the front, one tow hook in the rear, off-road cruise control, and a 3.92 rear axle ratio.

The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer comes with standard leather upholstery, automatic LED headlights, heated and ventilated front seats, tri-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel, heated mirrors, a tow hitch, keyless entry and ignition, and a hands-free liftgate. 

The 2022 Chevy Suburban has cloth standard seats, LED headlights, and tri-zone automatic climate control. An 8.0-inch touchscreen comes standard, but you can upgrade to the 10.0-inch unit. 

With the Wagoneer, you get a 10.1-inch infotainment screen and a 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Both SUVs come with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Wagoneer can also connect to Alexa and Amazon FireTV. 

So while the Suburban costs less and can help you save on fuel, the Wagoneer can tow more, comes with more standard amenities, and can be better equipped for off-roading.
