A used Chevy Suburban vs Ford Expedition: which is the better pick?

The Chevrolet Suburban and Ford Expedition are both leaders in the full-size SUV class. They’ve been some of the most obvious choices for a really large sport utility vehicle for many years, so it’s no surprise that both of these SUVs are in the running for the most reliable full-size SUV. You have a lot of options with both of these SUVs, but if you want the best one, it’s probably the Chevy Suburban.

That’s according to iSeeCars, which analyzed the data from 1.8 million vehicles to determine which are the most reliable and longest-lasting. It ranks the Chevy Suburban as the third-most reliable large SUV and the Ford Expedition as the fourth-most reliable SUV. So what makes the Suburban a better SUV?

The Chevrolet Suburban is a great used SUV

The Chevy Suburban is the third-best used SUV. It has a reliability rating of 8.8, which is a really great score. If it weren’t for the Toyota Land Cruiser and the Toyota Sequoia, the Suburban would be the best used SUV as far as reliability and longevity.

One of the best parts of the Chevrolet Suburban is its size. It can comfortably seat up to 8 passengers and since the 2021 model year, it’s gotten even bigger. The Suburban has added 23 cubic feet of cargo space, which is huge for families who travel or carry a lot of gear. There’s also more legroom in both the second and third rows – two inches, to be exact. You’ll pay about $33,163 to $50,991 for a used Suburban.

The Ford Expedition is the fourth-best used SUV

The Ford Expedition is ranked fourth by iSeeCars as the most reliable large SUV. Still, it has the same score as the Chevy Suburban for reliability, an 8.8. The Ford Expedition has a V6 which makes it more fuel-efficient than other large SUVs in its class. It also has a ton of cargo and passenger space.

The Ford Expedition will last a long time. “Known for its quality and reliability, it was named as Consumer Reports’ top choice for a large SUV.” A three-year-old Ford Expedition will likely cost you somewhere around $61,717.

If you want one of the best large used SUVs you can buy, either the Chevy Suburban or the Ford Expedition would make a great choice. Both of these SUVs offer a ton of space, more than almost any other SUV on the market. They’re also very reliable and long-lasting. If you can find a used one at a good price, either SUV is a fantastic option – though the Suburban is slightly better.
