They both offer a selection of well-outfitted SUVs to choose from and have automakers have SUVs that have been recognized for their quality and reliability. But which brand has better SUVs? Chevy’s selection of SUVs

Take a gander at Chevy’s lineup, and you’ll find that it offers plenty of SUVs to choose from. From the all-new Trailblazer to the well-known Chevy Suburban, Chevy offers an SUV to satisfy just about every automotive need and taste.

According to Kelley Blue Book, the 2017 Suburban has the best resale value among full-size SUVs. The Chevy Tahoe, on the other hand, was the winner of Edmund’s 2019 Buyers Most Wanted award for its segment. And if that wasn’t enough to seal the deal, this year’s Tahoe won Kelley Blue Book’s 5-Year Cost to Own award for the full-size SUV segment.

The Chevy Traverse has also been lauded for its class-leading 98.2 cubic-feet of cargo space. Last year’s model was also recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the Best 3-Row SUVs for Families.

Of course, those aren’t the only award-winning SUVs Chevy has to offer. The Chevy Equinox has also been recognized for its overall reliability ratings. 

Subaru’s lineup of SUVs

Subaru’s lineup of SUVs is nothing to scoff at either. Shop its selection of SUVs, and choose between models like the Subaru Ascent, Forester, Crosstrek, and the Subaru Outback. 

Plenty of models among Subaru’s selection of SUVs have also been recognized for their quality and reliability. According to Experian, 97% of Subaru Outback models sold in the last 10 years are still on the road today. The Subaru Forester also has held the highest residual value in its class for five years running, per ALG. 

Subaru is a three-time Best Overall Brand winner as well, according to Kelley Blue Book. Not only that, but Kelley Blue Book also says Subaru has the Best Resale Value of all brands for 2020. 

How do Subaru and Chevy compare?

There’s no denying that both automakers have what it takes to build an award-winning SUV. But, awards aren’t everything. So, how do Subaru and Chevy compare?

First things first, Chevy does offer a better selection of SUVs than Subaru. While Subaru’s lineup includes four SUVs, Chevy’s offers seven to choose from. Chevy also offers more than one SUV with three-rows of seating. Subaru, on the other hand, only offers one SUV with three-rows: the Subaru Ascent.

When it comes to safety, Subaru says all 2020 models, including features like Subaru EyeSight and Steering Responsive Headlights, have been named an IIHS Top Safety Pick. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said of Chevy. The IIHS has recognized only one Chevy SUV as a Top Safety Pick: the 2020 Chevy Equinox. 

Price is also worth considering when shopping either lineup. If you plan on buying new but want to make the most of your purchase, Chevy’s lineup may be your best bet. Unlike Subaru, Chevy’s lowest-priced model, the Chevy Trailblazer rings in at $19,400. Subaru’s lowest-priced model, the Subaru Crosstrek, starts at $22,245.
