On Sunday, Sept. 15, the Bedford, Ohio, police department received a report of a missing child. It had been two hours since the worried family saw their daughter. Oddly, their 2020 Nissan Rogue SUV was missing, too. Then, local police got an additional report from a concerned Ohioan about a small child driving east on a local road.

Indeed, a neighbor’s home security footage showed the girl getting in the car and pulling out of the block…all by herself. Eventually, officers located the Rogue in a Target parking lot nearly 11 miles away from home. Trip estimates pin the journey at about 25 minutes of driving. Authorities found the girl inside the store.

Bedford Police posted a statement on their Facebook page explaining the situation with a bit of humor.

“Well I’ve finally found a woman who’s in more of a hurry to shop at Target than my wife…She’s now home safe. Not sure what she bought, or if she was even able to use her Target app to save 5%. We did let her finish her Frappuccino. We’re not mean.”

Authorities didn’t charge the girl due to her juvenile status, although she did state that she hit a mailbox with the Rogue on her way to the Big Red Bullseye.

Comments on the social media post are mixed. Some say they’re impressed with the tiny driver’s ability to navigate local roads, while others express deep concern and question whether the parents face some sort of formal accountability for the incident.
