The SAIC group in China has just unleashed the flagship Maxus T90 pickup. It’s an aggressive-looking truck that looks like it wants to eat Ford F-150s for lunch. Though it is expected to be sold in different markets around the world it is doubtful it will make it into the states. 

For a new truck to get noticed it has to be aggressive-looking and the Maxus T90 pickup does catch eyeballs. Whether it is the angry front or light bar-like rear taillight it does stand out. We have no pictures or info on the interior since the Maxus won’t be publicly shown until next month. But we’re told it will resemble the concept pickup’s interior from 2019. 

Since Maxus is mainly for China both engines are four-cylinder

Since it is mainly for China both engines are four-cylinder power plants.  A 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine with 218 hp and a 2.0-liter ICE engine are the two choices. They’re hooked to either a 5-speed manual or 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. Of course four-wheel-drive will be available. 

On the horizon will be both a hybrid and/or electric-powered Maxus. It will probably share the electric power system from the Euniq 6 which has 174 hp and 229 lb-ft of torque. We’ll know the specifics when it is unveiled in April.

SAIC is the Chinese company that has a joint arrangement with GM

SAIC is the Chinese company that has a joint arrangement with GM to develop and build cars in China. Pickup trucks like this midsize Maxus were only allowed by the Chinese government to be sold there about three years ago. The current Maxus pickup is fairly generic without the distinction of this new model. 

We would not be surprised to see this truck badged as an LDV pickup in markets like Australia. It may also be badged as an MG product. It won’t share its frame as the body-on-frame platform is unique to the Maxus.
