Chinese automakers circle failing Stellantis brands like vultures
It’s no secret that Stellantis has been off to a rocky start with many prominent brands, like Jeep, losing sales. As a result, people have been offering to buy them. Chinese automakers are starting to circle like vultures.
Chinese automakers try to buy Stellantis brands
Some critics may feel like Stellantis has too much on its plate as it continues to make costly mistakes. It owns 14 car brands with significant American names being dragged through the mud.
Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler, and Ram have seen better days. The struggle is so noticeable that Chinese automakers have noticed and want to take advantage of the situation.
Stellantis CEO, Carlos Tavares, made the mistake of sharing that some brands could face changes if they become unprofitable.
This caused many brands and people such as the Chryler’s heir to contact Carlos about mergers, partnerships, and acquisitions.
Many offers have come from Chinese automakers looking to purchase a few struggling brands from the portfolio. The primary interest is in European brands like Fiat and Alfa Romeo.
After driving SUVs from both companies, I think removing the unique Italian flavor would destroy their charm. But no brands are currently for sale. Also, BYD is a major Chinese EV brand that is eyeing American brands such as Dodge and Chrysler.
Tavares shared he’s been approached by many Chinese automakers to acquire brands, but he continues to refuse their offers.
He explained that the brand isn’t ready to sell any brands or pursue mergers as it faces challenges in the automotive industry.
Not all brands are doing well, especially Maserati because its position isn’t well established. But the company is currently focusing on correcting declining sales, optimizing current operations, and maintaining its competitive position.
The brand is also focusing on internal improvements to maintain stability of the brand lineup. The financial outlook for the year was readjusted due to weakening demand and increased competition.
