This Chinese EV brand copied Lucid and Tesla looks for its own lineup
Electric cars are something of a regular presence on American roads now. However, you won’t see many Chinese EVs driving alongside Tesla and Lucid models on Sunset Boulevard anytime soon. However, even if you did, you might have a tough time telling the difference between American-market EVs and some of the rides in the XPENG lineup.
XPENG is a Chinese EV brand with a knack for making some familiar-looking electric vehicles
Chinese EV options are a bit of a boogeyman for the American electric car market. The country’s low-cost EVs are forbidden fruit for North American electric vehicle shoppers, especially after the latest tariffs. In fact, Chinese electric cars are subject to 100% tariffs in the United States and will soon have the same fate in the Canadian market.
XPENG is one of the Chinese EV brands whose vehicles you won’t likely see on American streets anytime soon. However, there’s a chance you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference if you did. XPENG has a bit of a propensity for making let’s say familiar EVs. For instance, the brand’s P7 sedan takes design cues from the Lucid Air, a luxury battery electric vehicle (BEV).
Up front, the P7 rather obviously wears the horizontal steel bar aesthetic that the Lucid Air wore at its unveiling in 2016. Around the side, the P7 borrows some of the design cues of the Tesla Model S. And in the back? The P7 has a horizontal light bar just like the Lucid Air. Deja vu, anyone?
Then there’s one of the brand’s latest vehicle announcements: the XPENG AEROHT Land Aircraft Carrier. Aside from its six-wheeled platform, the XPENG AEROHT Land Aircraft Carrier looks a lot like the controversial Tesla Cybertruck, right down to the stainless steel panel look.
Moreover, a glance at the side profile of the XPENG AEROHT truck reveals a pitched roofline look, just like the Cybertruck. However, the giant Chinese EV has a glass-paneled rear shell that conceals a flying module. Seriously.
