The Toyota Tundra has been around for quite a while. So has the Ford F-150. But when it comes to choosing between these two trucks? You’re going to want to stick with the 2021 Ford F-150. We’ll tell you why.

The 2021 Ford F-150 is available with a hybrid powertrain

A hybrid pickup truck? I know. I had a similar reaction. But, as it turns out, the Ford F-150 Hybrid makes for a pretty interesting pick. It’s driven by an all-new 3.5-liter PowerBoost full hybrid V6 powertrain and, according to Ford, delivers a whopping 430-hp while also targeting an EPA-estimated range of approximately 700 miles on a single tank of gas. Not only that, but the F-150’s hybrid powertrain allows it to tow up to 12,700 maximum pounds when properly equipped.

Unfortunately for the Toyota Tundra, it’s not available with a fuel-sipping hybrid powertrain. Instead, this year’s model comes standard with a 5.7-liter V8 engine. That’s the only engine option available too. And, to make matters even worse, the Tundra’s standard engine is pretty thirsty. According to the EPA, this year’s model delivers an EPA-estimated 13 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway.

Can the Toyota Tundra tow more than the 2021 Ford F-150?

Want a truck that can tow? Then stick with the Ford F-150. While this year’s Tundra can tow up to 10,100-pounds when properly equipped, this year’s new Ford F-150 is able to tow significantly more. While the Ford F-150 Hybrid can tow up to 12,700-pounds, a Ford F-150 equipped with the available Max Trailer Tow Package boasts a rating of 14,000-pounds. Pretty impressive, right?

The 2021 Ford F-150 has the edge if you’re after innovative features

The 2021 Ford F-150 has the edge when it comes to features too. This year’s model is available with Pro Power Onboard, which Ford claims offers the best usable power on demand in its class. Pro Power Onboard boasts three available outputs, including 2.0kW, 2.4kW, and 7.2kW. Simply plug a device into one of the F-150’s available outlets and use the FordPass app to keep an eye on wattage. As for this year’s Tundra? It doesn’t offer such a feature. 

The Toyota Tundra costs more than this year’s F-150

The Ford F-150 is the better pick if you’re looking to pinch pennies too. While a base model will certainly cost you, it’ll only cost you $28,940. At its most expensive, the 2021 Ford F-150 rings in at $70,825. The Tundra, on the other hand, starts at $33,825 and will have you spending a minimum of $53,050. While that does make a fully-loaded Tundra cheaper than that of a fully-loaded F-150, the F-150 still has the edge when it comes to its more affordable base price.
