The Chevy Silverado is one of the most popular trucks in America right now, and many folks love using their Silverado as a work truck. That being said, the world is turning to EVs, and Chevrolet is doing the same with the Silverado. Here’s a look at the highly-anticipated 2024 Chevy Silverado EV and what its Work Truck trim comes with.

The regular Chevy Silverado as a work truck

Currently, the Chevrolet Silverado is a pretty decent work truck. It starts at about $33,000, and while its interior has no frills, it’s completely capable of doing its job. For the 2022 model year, Chevy gave the Silverado a minor refresh and changed some options around.

For the Work Truck trim, in particular, the Silverado currently has two engine options. The standard engine is a 2.7-liter turbocharged I4 with 310 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. The other option is a 5.3-liter V8 with 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. The standard turbocharged engine allows the Silverado to tow about 9,500 pounds, while the V8 will enable it to tow 11,500 pounds. The payload capacity for both engines is just above 2,000 pounds.

What comes with the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV Work Truck

According to The Drive, the Chevy Silverado EV Work Truck trim is unsurprisingly weaker and more fundamental than its more expensive trims. Its electric motors generate 510 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque, allowing it to tow about 8,000 pounds. In terms of its payload capacity, though, the Silverado EV Work Truck can only carry about 1,200 pounds of cargo.

In addition to that, the Silverado EV Work Truck can be equipped with Chevrolet’s optional PowerBase feature. PowerBase allows the Silverado EV to send power out to 10 outlets, which will enable owners to provide power to a worksite, a home, or even another EV. PowerBase can distribute 10.2 kW of power, while the Ford F-150 Lightning’s similar feature can only distribute 9.6 kW.

Where the Silverado EV Work Truck shines is in its battery. Even though the Work Truck trim is expected to cost about $40,000, it’ll come with a huge 200-kWh battery. This allows it to get an estimated range of about 400 miles, which is significantly greater than what most EVs get nowadays. As such, while this Silverado may take a while before it arrives, it may be worth the wait.

Chevrolet has other EVs coming up

The Chevrolet Silverado EV is probably the most exciting future electric vehicle from Chevy, but it’s not the only EV that Chevy’s making. For the 2024 model year, Chevy will also be unleashing the 2024 Equinox EV. Chevy hasn’t revealed many details about the Equinox EV, but it’s expected to cost in the same ballpark as the regular Equinox. The regular Equinox currently starts at about $26,000, and the Equinox EV should begin at about $30,000.

Another EV in Chevy’s future lineup is closer to reality. The Chevrolet Blazer EV will come in 2023, but once again, Chevy has not released many details about the Blazer EV. However, since the Equinox will likely be a compact SUV, and the Blazer will likely be a mid-size SUV, the Blazer EV’s price tag will likely be higher than the Equinox EV’s. 

As for range, this is also another unknown. However, GM is using the same battery technology with the Blazer, the Equinox, and the Silverado EVs. As such, the electric versions of the Blazer and Equinox will likely have less range than the Silverado EV will have.
