We already know that the Ford F-150 is the unchallenged leader in truck sales, but we didn’t expect the Toyota Tundra to fall so far behind. The 2023 Ford F-150 is already crushing it this year, but looking at the 2023 Toyota Tundra sales is a little bleak.

The numbers are in, and the 2023 Ford F-150 is pretty stoked because it moved 170,377 models during the year’s first quarter. This is a 21.09% increase over the first quarter of 2022, when the F-150 sold 140,701 models.

But according to Ford Authority, the 2023 Toyota Tundra is off to a bumpy start. It managed to move about 27,651 units during the first quarter of 2023. This number feels low, but it’s actually a sales improvement of 22.12%.

The Tundra only sold 22,643 trucks in the first quarter of 2022. The sales growth is something to celebrate, but the F-150 is ahead by 142,726. That’s a significant lead. Is this a tortoise in the hare story? Can the Tundra catch up? Or is it falling too far behind?

Is the Ford F-150 or Toyota Tundra better?

Both the 2023 Ford F-150 and the 2023 Toyota Tundra have unique benefits to offer. For example, the Ford F-150 has a lower starting price, and the Toyota Tundra has more comfortable front seats.

Determining which truck is better may come down to why you’re buying it. If you need something for towing and hauling, then the F-150 wins. When properly equipped, the F-150 can tow up to 14,000 lbs and carry a payload of up to 3,325 lbs.

You can tow up to 12,000 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,940 lbs. Plus, the F-150 has innovative towing tech such as Pro Trailer Backup Assist, Pro Hitch Assist, Onboard Scales, and blind-spot coverage.

The 2023 F-150 has more options available to meet various budget constraints. For example, there are eight different powertrains available, eight trims, and a variety of packages, such as the affordable Rattler off-roading package.

The 2023 Tundra has two different engines available and a solid lineup of seven different trims. But the configurations feel limited in comparison.

Both trucks have a hybrid variant. The F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid cranks out 430 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque. The Tundra Hybrid provides 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque.

The F-150 Hybrid gets an EPA-estimated 24 mpg in the city and up to 26 mpg on the highway. The Tundra Hybrid Max gets an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and up to 24 mpg on the highway.

Is the Tundra or F-150 more comfortable?

The 2023 Ford F-150 is more comfortable because it’s more accommodating. It has more adjustment control with the steering wheel, pedals, and seats to fit people of all shapes and sizes.

Both trucks provide an abundance of passenger and cargo space with an abundance of storage bins. While the Ram 1500 delivers the smoothest ride, the F-150 is smoother than the Tundra. The cabin is a little quieter as well.

You can equip both trucks with dual-zone climate control, heated seats, ventilated seats, and heated steering wheels. Bot the F-150 also offers massaging seats and Max Recline seats.

The F-150 leads the segment because it’s a well-rounded option for work and daily driving comfort. It has more towing power, more configurations, and is more comfortable.

The Toyota Tundra is a solid alternative with plenty of comfort for daily driving, and it could catch up in sales. Stay tuned for the latest truck updates.
