Typically when construction workers are around busy roads, drivers get pretty frustrated. But, one 17-year-old girl was lucky to have a crew nearby when she was struck and pinned beneath a Chevrolet Equinox. This electric scooter accident could have been much worse.

Construction workers save a 17-year-old after being pinned under Chevy Equinox

Laura Auzon, a 17-year-old girl, was riding her electric scooter around Northwest Miami Court and 14th Street around 7 AM when disaster struck.

She was hit by a Chevrolet Equinox and pinned under the SUV. A Miami police officer shared that based on the information they have, the driver was turning right and didn’t see the girl on the corner.

When the police arrived, Auzo was still pinned under the SUV. The Chevy Equinox weighs between 3,275 to 3,512 lbs.

Then construction workers rushed over. They used a forklift to lift the SUV, then paramedics were able to rescue Laura, who was in critical condition.

Paramedics with the Miami Fire Rescue team quickly transported Laura to the Ryder Trauma Center, where she is in stable condition. Her life may have been saved because of these actions that allowed her to receive treatment faster.

The driver of the Chevy Equinox stayed on the scene and was working with detectives. Miami police hope that this serves as a reminder to drivers to always be on the lookout for pedestrians.

One police officer shared that all drivers are encouraged to always pay attention before making a turn off any pedestrians that might be on the sidewalk. According to Sunbeam Television Corp, the driver will be charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian. However, things could have been much worse.
