Ohh, Honda, please bring the cool Honda e to the U.S. We promise we’ll love it, buy them in droves, and clog our freeways with your zero-emissions city car that looks as cute as a button and handles like the long-lost S2000, but competes with the Fiat 500e.

There is no Honda electric car in the U.S. While Honda doesn’t sell an all-electric car in the here, in Europe they get the e, a lower-case styled name for a city car that makes a lot of sense. Even if not for the U.S.

What is the Honda e electric car?

The Honda e is a city car that’s tailor-made for the urban jungle. It’s small, it’s light, it’s all electric, and it did we say it’s cute? It has a 4.3-meter turning circle, which is great for parallel parking in tight urban areas. It only makes 134 horsepower, but it’s only 153 inches long, which is about the wheelbase of a Chevy Suburban.

Crucially, it handles. It has a 50:50 weight distribution, and that weight is low, and its rear-wheel drive. That means it handles more like an S2000 sports car. Honda also knows that in a city car, personality is key so it comes in funky colors like bright yellow or a brilliant blue. You can also order the U.R.B.A.N. Pack, which adds sporty touches like lowered bumper covers and different wheels.

But, the range leaves a lot to be desired. It only goes about 130 miles. That’s one reason it’s not being sold in the U.S. But, the UK magazine Car calls it a “Tiny Tesla,” and we’re inclined to agree.

The interior has more screens than a Cadillac Escalade

Inside, the e is a simple car. It’s built for commuting, not chauffeuring after all. But, it has some surprising luxury features like a digital rear-view mirror, and a dash that acres of screens that span the entire dash like the Jeep Grand Wagoneer luxury SUV. Those huge screens can be configured to show a variety of images, like an aquarium. But it also has a dash of 1980s cool, with a long flat wood-like panel dash that looks like it came out of a 1984 Civic.

Of course you can connect it to an app that will show you driving conditions and the nearest charging port. It also doesn’t have side mirrors. Instead, two sleek cameras show you what’s creeping up from behind in screens. The Honda e knows it’s small, so the front seats can fold flat so you put long, or big, items inside. That’s clever.

This Honda electric car has quick charging capability

With a limited range, quick charging is key. With a high-capacity charger, you can charge the e to 80% capacity in 31 minutes, according to Honda. My cell phone won’t even do that. But, of course, the batteries in the e are super small compared to those in, say, a Lucid Air which has a 526 miles of range.

If you could get one, how much would it cost?

Surprisingly, the e isn’t cheap. It’s a premium tiny car, and that’s something Americans just don’t get. It has a leather steering wheel, a full suite of driver’s aids, and more digital wizardry than Hogwarts. It costs about £38,000, or nearly $47,000. That’s a lot of scratch for a 130-mile EV, and unfortunately, it just doesn’t make sense in the U.S.
