This Corporation Owns 12 Brands, Including Dodge, Jeep, and Alfa Romeo
You know which brand of car you own. But do you know the parent company behind your brand? With so many changes at the corporate level, consumers can sometimes be in the dark about which companies own their favorite car brands. One monolithic company owns 12 different brands. Big brands like Dodge and more are owned by one organization: Stellantis. Here’s how the automaking giant took control of these 12 popular badges and what they are.
1. Alfa Romeo
Alfa Romeo is primarily known for its Giulia sports sedan and Stelvio SUV in the U.S. since the 4C Spider convertible roadster was discontinued after its 2020 model year. However, more recently, the automaker introduced the Alfa Romeo Tonale compact SUV, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model, and the luxury brand’s first step toward electrification.
2. Chrysler
Like Alfa Romeo, the Chrysler brand once fell under the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles umbrella. This group later re-emerged as Stellantis. The budget-friendly Chrysler Voyager van has transitioned to fleet-only options. Additionally, the long-lived 300 full-size sedan is on its way out, according to CNBC. That just leaves the Pacifica minivan as the brand’s resolute model until the catalog is beefed up with new entries.
3. Dodge
Dodge and Chrysler have long since been associated with the same corporate entities. So, it’s no surprise that Dodge is now Stellantis. The Charger and Challenger muscle cars are still around, but not for long, as the brand aims to replace them with EV counterparts. Additionally, there’s the Durango SUV and the new Hornet, which is available with a gas or PHEV powertrain.
4. Fiat
This Italian brand of cars only offers the 500X subcompact SUV for North American shoppers, with the 500, 500L, and 124 Spider models having been discontinued over the past few years. However, Stellantis plans to bring the newly redesigned and all-electric Fiat 500e model to the U.S. from overseas in 2024.
5. Jeep
Jeep, at one point, was a stand-alone company before folding into the Chrysler family, later to be Stellantis. However, Jeep still holds its own as a unique offering of SUVs. The off-road capable Wrangler continues to be a cult classic among consumers. But there is also the Gladiator pickup, the Renegade and Compass small SUVs, the Cherokee lineup, and the newly revamped and luxurious Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer nameplates.
6. Maserati
Maserati has been synonymous with Italian-bred sports car performers for almost 100 years. It’s a brand that has changed ownership many times before falling under the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles umbrella, to then become Stellantis.
Models currently include the Grecale and Levante SUVs, the Ghibli and Quattroporte sedans, the M20 roadster, and the newly revived Grand Turismo.
7. Ram
Ram is one of the nation’s most popular truck brands. Known for powerhouse working capability in both gas and diesel capacities, the Ram truck has a fierce following. Today, you can find luxury and workhorse mentality in the truck lineup, including the Ram 1500, the Ram 1500 Classic, the heavy-duty Ram 2500 and Ram 3500, and an assortment of commercial and chassis models.
8. Citroen
Inside EVs shared that Citroen, a Stellantis brand, will only sell electric variations of its midsize and compact MPVs across Europe. The Citroen Berlingo and Space Tourer will be exclusively available as battery power in 2022.
Meanwhile, for now, you’re unlikely to see a Citroen-badged model in the U.S.
9. DS Automobiles
AM Online reported that DS Automobiles has big plans for exclusive electrification by 2024 as well as an expanded model range. The French automaker is part of the Stellantis family and offers the DS4 hatchback in the British market, primed to compete with the Audi A3 and the BMW 1 Series. The DS9 will also take on the Lexus ES and the Jaguar FX overseas.
10. Opel
The Opel Combo Life, the Vivaro Combi, and the Safira Life are available overseas from the German car brand. These vehicles are only sold as all-electric models across the European Union and the United Kingdom.
11. Peugeot
Alongside Fiat Chrysler, Peugeot is the other half responsible for the merger to form Stellantis. Headquartered in Paris, France, Peugeot has recently made the push toward electrification in Europe with its e-208, e-Rifter, and e-Traveller models.
12. Vauxhall
Vauxhall Motors is a British car company, although most of its models are engineered and manufactured in Germany due to its intellectual partnership with Opel, according to Drive Vauxhall.
