A State Trooper busted a Chevrolet Corvette C8 owner going 84 mph over the speed limit on an Ohio highway

The life of an Ohio State Trooper might not include high speeds every day, but for this trooper, a Corvette injected action into his shift. The trooper clocked the driver outside Turtle Creek Township, Ohio, going 149 mph in a 65mph zone on I-75. 

The trooper talked to the C8 Corvette driver on the highway rather than arresting him on the spot. However, rather than being initially apologetic, the driver makes excuses and justifies his driving behavior. Of course, the driver had to contend with the sobering truth of the situation when he saw the radar reading that displayed “149.” Still, the Ohio State Trooper chose to talk down the driver’s rage and share information about the dangers of road rage and reckless driving. 

Of course, even with the excuse of another enraged driver and “not knowing the car,” the offending driver will have to deal with some yet-to-be-determined punishment. After all, driving on a busy highway at over twice the speed limit isn’t something law enforcement takes lightly. 

What happens if you go over 100 mph?

While punishments vary from state to state, most states levy fines, infractions, or misdemeanor charges for drivers who speed at over 100 mph. For instance, in Texas, speeding to such an extent could result in reckless driving charges. If convicted, offenders could pay up to $200 in fines and spend up to 30 days in jail. 

Moreover, in Ohio, where the Chevrolet Corvette C8 driver exceeded the speed by 84 mph, driving at speeds over 100 mph on public roads could result in a reckless driving conviction. While reckless driving isn’t a felony, any speeding instance that results in another individual’s death could carry vehicular manslaughter or homicide charges, per Drivinglaws.org. The Ohio Corvette road rage incident could have easily resulted in a bystander’s death. Fortunately, no one experienced any injuries.

The Chevrolet Corvette C8 is one of the fastest cars at its price point. For instance, the C8 Stingray Z51 will hit 60 mph in as little as 2.8 seconds on its way to a top speed of around 184 mph. That speed is courtesy of the C8’s 3,647-lb curb weight and eager 495-horsepower V8.
