By the end of this year, we’ll see the 2025 Corvette SUV. Yes, it is happening, as Chevrolet takes a page from Porsche’s own book. With the Porsche Macan and Cayenne being sales leaders for the Stuttgart automaker, it was only a matter of time before Chevrolet made a similar move. Corvette will become its own brand, a premium brand, with more models covering other segments in the offing.

Will the 2025 Corvette SUV be electric?

None of this is surprising, really. The Corvette is an outlier for Chevrolet, as the brand becomes a strictly truck and SUV manufacturer. With the just-announced end of the Camaro, it is down to the Corvette and the milquetoast Malibu sedan, which is slowly fading. It lost any semblance of being a performance brand decades ago, while the Corvette’s performance star rose exponentially with the C8.

And while everything on wheels, it seems, will be electrified, according to Car and Driver, that won’t be the case with the Corvette SUV. It says this breakaway model will ride on GM’s Alpha platform. Currently, the Camaro, Cadillac CT4-V, and CT5-V Blackwings ride on Alpha underpinnings. 

Will there be only one Corvette SUV?

With that news, we can also speculate that there will be more than one SUV model, again, following Porsche’s lead. As each of the three current Alpha models ride on different wheelbases, from 109 to 116 inches, the platform offers application versatility. So we can be looking at a Corvette Macan and Cayenne, so to speak.

While any number of engines can go into the platform, we expect that only three, the twin-turbo V6, 6.2-liter V8, and top-of-the-line supercharged 6.2 V8 will make appearances. After all, this is supposed to be a premium brand. But an electric version is surely in the works as that is where everything is going. 

What will power the 2025 Corvette SUV?

With the V8s, the 2025 Corvette SUV can tout 500 hp up to a whopping 700 hp from the supercharged 6.2. This is the same V8 found in the Cadillac Escalade V, with 682 hp. All three engines transmit the power through GM’s 10-speed automatic transmission. 

Many of the premium pieces from the Cadillac V-series offerings will also find their way onto the Corvette SUV, like bigger brakes, larger wheels, and wider tires. Big, large, and wide. And monikers will share those of current Corvettes, like Z06, LZ variants, and even a penultimate ZR. The Corvette (and Camaro) have burnished the nomenclature for decades, and it defines what a performance vehicle from Chevrolet is. 

How well do the Macan and Cayenne sell?

Porsche sells a steady yearly output of 22,000 Macans for around $60,000, and 20,000 Cayenne SUVs in the mid-$70,000 range. Corvette SUVs could raise those production numbers, with lower prices. Though those numbers seem low, by using available platforms and drivetrains, there should be a lot of profit dripping from those Corvette SUV sales. 

Debuts will happen later this year, with SUVs rolling out of showrooms in late 2024. So all of you Corvette enthusiasts now you know so make your plans.
