Cranky No More: Every F-150 Is Getting Power Windows in 2023
Did you know that you could still order a Ford F-150 with crank-up windows in 2022? That’s right, the stripped-down F-150 XL maintained a $29,990 MSRP by deleting remote door locks, cruise control, and even power windows. The same trim will go for at least $33,695 in 2023 but now comes with a slew of modern technologies standard.
How much does the 2023 Ford F-150 XL cost?
For the 2023 model year, the Ford F-150 XL’s MSRP is increasing from $29,990 to $33,695. But the experts at Edmunds estimate that with fees and other charges, you’ll pay closer to $36,380.
With global supply chain issues plaguing automakers throughout 2022, the cost of manufacturing has increased dramatically. This has led to MSRP hikes for most 2023 models. While Ford has increased the prices of its entry-level F-150 by several thousand dollars, it’s still one of the cheaper trucks around.
There is actually no full-size pickup truck left with an MSRP below $30k. So much for the cheap work truck. Here are how 2023 MSRPs stack up:
Configuration | Manufacturer’s Advertised MSRP | Edmunds’ Estimated Total | |
Ford F-150 XL | Regular cab (2-door) | $33,695 | $36,380 |
Chevrolet Silverado 1500 WT | Regular cab (2-door) | $35,600 | $37,395 |
GMC Sierra 1500 Pro | Regular cab (2-door) | $37,200 | $38,195 |
Ram 1500 “Classic” (2022) | Regular Cab (2-door) | $30,235 | $31,445 |
Ram 1500 Tradesman | Quad cab (small 4-door) | $37,090 | $38,295 |
Toyota Tundra SR | Double cab (small 4-door) | $36, 965 | $38,000 |
Nissan Titan S | King Cab (rear suicide doors) | $39,700 | $41,495 |
How is Ford changing the F-150 XL for 2023?
Ford had to delete several modern features from its 2022 F-150 XL to maintain the truck’s $29k MSRP. Now that the automaker is increasing the truck’s price, it can afford to add basic comforts such as electric windows and locks.
Even in 2022, the Ford F-150 XL offered a lot of value at its low price point. It beat out the competition with an 8-inch touch screen, cloth seats, Ford Sync4, and even some features of Co-Pilot360. The F-150 XL also had selectable drive modes, a shift-on-the-fly transfer case, 10-speed automatic transmission, and even headlights that turn on automatically when you activate your windshield wipers.
But it was also missing some modern features. So while the truck had automatic emergency braking, it didn’t even have cruise control. And, of course, power windows and locks cost extra. For 2023, Ford is making the basic F-150 XL comfort package–with power windows and locks as well as cruise control–standard on every truck.
In addition, Ford will be offering a new off-road package for the XL.
The 2023 Ford F-150 Rattler is an off-road XL
As the Ford F-150 Raptor’s MSRP increased, the automaker rolled out the more affordable “Tremor” package on mid-trim F-150s. Now the trend continues with the all-new F-150 Rattler package on the XL trim.
This package adds skid plates, tuned off-road shocks, and a locking rear differential to the 4WD F-150 XL. Off-road driver aids include hill descent control, and the package even upgrades the truck’s tires.
